Pros

Used to be great in the beginning. I felt like I was a part of something.

Cons

Employees were promised that each round of layoffs would be the end. We were told there was enough capital to make it through the next year. But, 3 rounds later and with 75% of appraiser laid off or leaving and the majority of the other staff gone; there isn’t much left and the market isn’t to blame. Poor leadership and poor decision making killed this company.

We’re sorry you feel this way and that you were affected by the layoff. Unfortunately, given the significant downturn in the industry, we’ve had to greatly reduce the size of our appraisal team just like most or all other appraisal companies at this point. Until the economy recovers it means maintaining a smaller team, preserving capital, and outlasting this downturn.

Pros

The people I met were great. There were great appraisers and having the opportunity to learn from them was incredible.

Cons

Leadership will continue to tell you what you want to hear while making decisions behind closed doors that are the exact opposite of what they say.

I'm sorry to see this was your experience as it's not factual. Aloft is built on transparency as can be seen in company All Hands, CEO office hours, and the communications that go out regularly. In addition, all employees have access to all data and metrics as well as financials being shared. Leadership has had to make some tough decisions in order to adjust to the market and prove the viability of the company. The difficult decisions were not done lightly and the effect on current and past Alofteans weighs heavy.

Pros

Great work life balance. Amazing team of appraisers to collaborate with. Great engineering team and people. Optimistic leadership. Fun, a lot of the times. Solid intent.

Cons

Inexperienced leadership showed through on business and product side. Poor hiring and retention decisions at C suite level. Poor use of talent - wanting to be the smartest person in the room vs listening to the smartest idea. Half-baked altruism on the operations side instead of consistent feedback & scrutiny of process by appraisers. Head of culture that nuked moral. All around failure in the Product direction and leadership.

Thank you for being thoughtful in your review. We agree that Aloft has had and continues to have an amazing team of Appraisers, Engineers, and people! We disagree that we've made poor hiring decisions wholeheartedly. Being part of a start up isn't for everyone as there are a lot of stop and goes and other various hurdles as the technology is being built. It's a challenge to build a plane while you're flying and we understand this environment isn't for everyone.
