Pros
Working with small business clients of various sizes, from a single person startup to a mature company with dozens of employees in a broad array of industries. The free assistance provided is often extremely valuable for business owners, resulting in growth from successful marketing strategies, infusion of needed capital, etc., thus, there is a high level of intrinsic reward beyond financial. Also, the work is interesting, due in large part to the variety of different industries, new ideas borne out of technological advancements, etc. Also, being able to continue working with the client strategies all the way from idea to execution.
Cons
Communications have improved, but still need work. For instance, each client is required to complete a survey after every counseling session. For professional development purposes, why not share, at least, summary scores and strengths/weaknesses, with the Business Analysts ? Good employees have been fired without notice or counseling. Opportunities for advancement are negligible as their is no senior level to advance to. Too much heavy handedness in applying the at will contract advantage. Multiple Business Analysts, including some of the better ones, were fired because of personality issues without prior communications or counseling.
