Avoid This Dumpster Fire of an Organization

Pros

The families are truly fantastic.

Cons

- The CEO, Evelia Villa, was previously the center of an investigation by WCCUSD along with her husband, Jorge Lopez, who was the CEO before her (Nepotism is a huge issue at this school system). This investigation involved telling staff members, who are mandated reporters, to not report child abuse. Google them and read for yourself. - I want to address "high turnover" - There is no job security at AMPS, except for Evelia Villa. I went through 4 principals in 3 years while working here. There is absolutely no consistency in leadership, leading to chaotic staff experiences where principals are fired in the middle or at the end of the year. This experience extends to teachers as well; I watched plenty of teachers get "let go" if senior leadership didn't like the teacher. - Lack of honesty and integrity: I watched heads of this organization lie to school boards about credential statuses of teachers in their school, and I watched senior leadership coerce families into protesting at school board meetings by telling families if they don't show up the school board will shut down their school forever. These are just a FEW instances that highlight the chaotic working conditions at AMPS.

Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear that you’ve had issues with the organization, but it is not quite clear who exactly you may have had issues with so we will respond in general. We take all concerns very seriously and also take the accuracy of information just as serious. The West Contra Costa Unified School District gave the AMPS organization a letter of Good Standing in response to their inquiries as is within their responsibility as a charter school authorizer. The Founder of the AMPS organization departed from AMPS in 2019, and was replaced by an Interim Chief Executive Officer while the AMPS organization participated in a national Executive Search led by Leadership Associates (http://leadershipassociates.org). We are proud to have Ms. Evelia Villa as the leader of the organization, one of the few first generation Mexicana/Latina leaders to serve in the CEO role of a charter management organization in the state. Please feel free to contact us to address your concerns.

Amazingly Awful

Pros

The students are fantastic. The teachers and administrators I supervised were the best I have encountered in my career - until they were terminated due to personality conflicts with upper management.

Cons

AMPS is a shady company and thoroughly unorganized at the home office level. The lack of organization, competence, and guidance ultimately makes working here in an administrative capacity nearly impossible. If you are thinking about employment here, please watch the AMPS board meetings on youtube and the video from 2018 regarding AMPS attempted and denied Sacramento City Unified School District charter applications. I would also recommend reading everything you can about Amethod Public Schools prior to accepting a position with this company. In my opinion, their "method" is to manage staff through fear, intimidation, and deception. As a school leader, this company is an extremely difficult environment to navigate. Best of luck if you are up for the most frustrating experience of you life.
