Pros

Excellent benefits and perquisites which balances out the middling to lower end compensation scales. Staff colleagues are cooperative, competent, and productive. Departments are up to date with best practices. Nice location in small New England town with easy access to ski areas in VT and NH, and quick train ride into NYC.

Cons

Departments siloed, little lateral integration. Significant divide between staff and faculty. Limited vertical growth opportunities for most staff in most departments.

The college is extremely hierarchical. Aged top tier faculty who have accumulated power due to strong faculty governance, and who view their piece of the institution as personal fiefdoms.
