Pros

Fun office environment with competitive pay and benefits. There are lots of fun and well educated/smart people working at Ampush. Open communication lines to any executive (although you may only get fluffy responses).

Cons

The founders have created very clear line between the "haves" and the "have nots". The founders are clearly checked out and are only looking to finalize the sale. One founder hasn't shown up to the office in months (taking personal time), one founder seems to go on vacation around the world every other week, and the third founder is so disconnected from the business that he thinks the market conditions are the same as they were in 2012. Lowly media analysts are underpaid vs. most of Ampush's competitors. The equity shares for new hires will most likely net you less than your quarterly bonus (based on the target selling price). There is a BIG drug problem in both offices that leadership has chosen to turn a blind eye to. Managers and senior team members will come into the office after all-night benders and do more drugs during their lunch breaks. I have never seen such blatant drug abuse before, during or after work (at work related events and parties).

Pros

Decent location(s) in SF and NY, free lunch (if that is really a perk anymore), good benefits, some great co-workers (though always turning over), and better opportunities after leaving (the best part about having worked at Ampush is no longer working at Ampush)

Cons

Founders completely lack credibility, management skills, transparency, or ANY self awareness. Biggest example of this is the year + they spent "being excited" about raising capital "for the future" of the company and the employees. Halfway into this it became pretty clear these guys didn't know what they were doing (actually, that's generous, immediately it became clear, when the one founder who hadn't done a day of work while I was employed there was allegedly in charge of this process), when they didn't appear to have any real decent offers, and couldn't come up with any viable stories to tell the company along the way, leading to 55% of the staff or more turning over inside a year. Thankfully (!!!) the other founders were 'smart' enough to blame the turnover on middle management (who were set up so well to succeed in that environment). When they finally got a deal to discuss, they apparently bungled it up so badly communicating it to the rest of the shareholders that they refused to approve the deal! It probably isn't a great sign to your new investors if your bootstrapped company shareholders don't trust you enough to take a deal you bring to them. This probably shouldn't come as a surprise then, but none of the proceeds from the investment feel like they've been reinvested, into the company at least. Definitely look like they've been invested into the founders not being at the office and at a lot of basketball games and car dealerships and vacations though. Awesome, you get what you pay for working here.
