Pros

If you're reading this, you're probably fresh out of college, and you just interviewed at Andrew Residence. You're a little put off by the iffy neighborhood, and you're scared of people with mental illness. Take the job. This is a rare opportunity to work in health care where almost everyone is committed to the patients, and not profit. It's a great way to learn more about mental health, and if you aren't all gushy over the residents in a few months, well, it's not for you. Good, supportive managers, the ability to be creative and to have real responsibilities. If you're at all thinking about nursing school, doing a year or two here will put you far beyond the majority of your classmates. If you're thinking about social work, or any kind of career in mental health, this is a fantastic place to start. Also, they're able and willing to be more flexible than some other workplaces. That is important. Oh, and free lunch

Cons

Well.... the pay's not the greatest, but as said, you'll enjoy your time here and learn A. LOT.

Challenging but so rewarding

Pros

This place is special, and it exists to help with a very REAL problem. Most of the staff really care about their jobs, and it shows. But at the end of the day, the residents are what makes this place so great. You get to build relationships with all type of people, and help to improve lives. Working at Andrew was one of the best experiences of my life, and helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Cons

Working in mental healthcare is just flat out difficult. The pay is poor and staff turnover is high, which makes things even more challenging. In a MHW role, there's no room for upward growth in the company. You'll also rarely be fully recognized for the work you're doing (although I know management does try).

Pros

This place is filled with supportive staff. My coworkers have been more than welcoming. The residents are great as well. Pay is decent. Did I mention a free meal on the shift you work? Which I will add are pretty good too. I really love working here.

Cons

Its in a sketchy area of Minneapolis. Not much room for movement up in the company.
