Pros

The students who sign up for the course.

Cons

I paid over $1000 (airfare, travel insurance and a 'deposit' to volunteer at Angloville in Poland. I was told I would stay at a luxury hotel with three meals/day in exchange for speaking with paying adult students for a week. The paying students may have had luxury accommodations but the volunteers were sent to damp, moldy, stinking basement rooms (shared) with thin foam mattresses. The 3 meals consisted of the same food everyday. Breakfast and dinner were cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs every day. 12 1/2 hour days starting at 8:30 am and ending at 9:00 pm. Unresponsive, deceitful practices.

We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. This is not the standard we aim for, and we regret that the accommodation and meals did not meet your expectations. While we do not advertise luxury hotels, we strive to provide comfortable 3-star venues. We take your comments about the volunteer coordinator seriously and will be addressing them to ensure better communication and support for our volunteers. Please feel free to reach out directly to us if you’d like to discuss this further at info@angloville.com. Your feedback is valuable in helping us enhance the experience for everyone involved.

Pros

The kids that you work with are great, and you get to meet a lot of cool native speakers from all over the world.

Cons

Angloville exploits its workers for abysmal pay (or no pay if you volunteer) while expecting you to work 12 hour days with one break during the day. Communication with management is also terrible. The programs are great, but they don't have any respect or gratitude for the workers and volunteers that make these programs possible.

Pros

Support from the day before program date: We had a free four-hour walking tour around Budapest and lunch at a great restaurant in the city the day before the program began. Lots of instruction about where to meet to go to the program site the following day. Lots of things to do: There were many places to explore and free time to spend as you chose at the program site. Our site in Kerekegyháza had bowling, horseback riding, walking trails, saunas, a playground, a small bowling alley, and a game room with squash courts, foosball, table tennis, and pool tables. Staff available frequently: You could always find a coordinator on-site if you had a problem or a question, and our coordinators were very open and helpful. Free meals and lodging: Three scheduled multiple-course meals plus one scheduled snack per day, served in a dining area alongside mentors, participants, and coordinators. Shared lodging with heater and private bathroom. There were three people in my room, but most had two people per room and some were singles. Networking! I met so many fantastic people among the mentors, coordinators, and participants, and these people are going to be lifelong friends. What better place to meet travelers from every corner of the globe?

Cons

Don't go into this thinking that it's going to be a vacation. Our days started with breakfast at 8 am and ended with recreation time that lasted until 10 pm, and mentors are expected to be present and participating the entire time (including one hour for each meal and one hour of free time in the afternoon). There is a LOT of conversation time, and on some days you may see nearly every participant personally for 20-40 minutes (around 16 students). You won't ever be truly alone. This is by no means a bad thing! I am extremely introverted, but constantly being around people was manageable. Just, please don't treat Angloville as a 100% vacation. You will be doing a LOT, but the reward is fantastic.

The Angloville team is so glad to hear you had a great experience with the support, activities, and networking opportunities. It’s wonderful that you made lasting friendships and enjoyed the variety of things to do on-site. We also appreciate your realistic insight into the program’s pace and expectations—it’s definitely a unique experience that involves a lot of engagement, but as you said, the reward is well worth it! Thank you again for sharing your experience with us.
