Understand your role as a mental health organisation to protect your staff

Pros

- great general well-being benefits including early finish on Fridays and a well-being afternoon off every month - genuine commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion at staff level with EDI networks, awareness days etc - passionate colleagues who care deeply about the cause

Cons

- culture of panic among senior team, outsourcing major decisions to costly and largely ineffective consultants who don’t understand the function (particularly in the context of the Communications restructure) - work can be slow and frustrating. Endless sign off processes, delays and last minute changes to messaging come at the expense of successful outcomes. - lack of meaningful mental health engagement with staff who are struggling with high workload or restructures. People are overworked, under appreciated and morale is low.

Pros

Lovely colleagues. Open, supportive and inclusive culture among colleagues. Interesting and meaningful work. Delivery of impactful services for children, young people and families. Flexible and remote working available.

Cons

Flat structure with no opportunities for progression. Inconsistencies in salary benchmarking. Experience, performance and skills not valued and not considered during appraisal. No training opportunities. No support for line managers. Lack of project KPIs and managers try and hide poor results. Lack of accountability and transparency in senior management. Favouritism plays a significant role and who you know in the organisation. Some of the projects seem to be more to the liking of the top-level management compared to some of the others. Erratic crisis management. Sign-off and internal bureaucracy take too long. 5-year strategy not well communicated and understood by staff. Concerns and criticism from staff members frequently ignored and dismissed. A lot of money spent on slow and mediocre work from consultancy agencies.

Very good place to work

Pros

Good salaries when benchmarked against sector. Reasonable workload unlike most of the sector. Good benefits in terms of time off, support for mental well being etc

Cons

It's not an agile organisation, they take a long time to decide to do anything. Also its position in relation to gender<>sex debate is entirely on the gender side. If you think women should retain the right to single sex services (as opposed to single 'gender' services) then it's probably not the best place for you as you may be labelled a pejorative term by staff.
