Pros

Very employee friendly. Firmly believes customer success is Apigee's success which is so true in API industry. Great people/culture and challenging customer focused problems to solve. These two things really motivates me to go to work everyday. Free food, great location, benefits are awesome but are secondary to me. Unique challenges to overcome are - super scalable as well as compact product architecture suitable for public and private cloud, demanding mission critical customer base. Remote offices including Denver,London and Banglore are getting more attention.

Cons

Less focus on building awareness around APIs in general and its own brand. Some times fear of short term sacrifices delay the long term solutions.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. I agree on the secondary importance of some of the benefits like food. I think you raise a really interesting question: "Do we spend too much time focusing on building awareness around APIs?" Perhaps the market is more mature than we give it credit for? Would love you to ask this question at a future all hands or perhaps post it in the Community as something for consideration and debate?

Suicide for UI Developers

Pros

- Free Cricket match tickets. - Very often team lunches. - Free B1 visa. Only visa though. Trip is subject to terms and conditions.

Cons

- Pathetic middle management. All they care about is praising the senior management, will never care to take your point of view in consideration. - They use all lingo like we are Agile, we are flexible. All are false talks, don't trust them. You won’t be part of any grooming, and when you ask questions, you will be said to Google it. Yup you read it right. - They have a team in US to handle the UI work. Better leave the work to them, they don't like deviation from their practices (which may be good for them). But if they give any comments, even general ones, oh boy, the middle management at Bangalore will make your life hell. Everything is considered to be best practice. No documents, though, to outline the best practice. No one is going to explain them to you either. - Senior management in Bangalore doesn't engage with new employees. - No documents what so ever, and no one is interested to even create one. And no, you cannot ask questions. - They say they are established company, but the culture is still very much start-up-ish. No, not in terms of work, but in terms of arrogance.

Not Bad, Not Good.

Pros

At the time when I was in the employment with Apigee, I saw a major technical, headcount and management shift, ups and down. The colleagues were awesome. Work culture was good. - TGIF, - kind of flat structure. - Employee friendly policies. - Few projects were not revenue generating, and less work. Sometimes, people used to just enjoy life and waste time without goal.

Cons

- Difference in pays. There was no benchmarking. Few people with half the experience were paid double the salary compared to double experienced folks - Engineering team at India saw confused leadership, less hikes, plans without goals. - Some bigshots were just engaged in big talks. - Bad experience for patent application. Just to submit for patent application, leadership spent 1 year. The complete submission process was driven by me. - Once an employee quits organisation, the company does not bother about checking the status of the patent application. Being the inventor of the patent, I was curious about the status, but company's patent process handling person gave, none of you business now and do not try contacting us in future, kind of reply.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry that your experience with us fell short of your expectations. While I'm happy that you viewed our flat structure, policies and projects positively, I take seriously your perceptions of our people practices in India. Your insights will help us improve and for that I thank you. All the best to you in your future endeavors.

Pros

Of course, Apigee has great perks like flexible schedules/remote working, free lunches, happy hours, onsite fitness classes and lots of other general wellness activities. Those are fantastic benefits, but also are things that you can find at lots of other companies. 3 things that make Apigee truly different and an amazingly unique and rewarding place to work: 1) A culture that is open, honest and direct, and that encourages you to be yourself — Not only does this bring out the best in the company, it is incredibly liberating and satisfying individually. Rather than worry about how you “position things”, “get buy in” or any other political doublespeak, we approach things internally and with our Customers in a very direct and transparent way. Things are just easier that way. 2) Outside-in thinking — Apigee recognizes and rewards individual accomplishments, but everything is done with the Customer in mind. This creates great clarity and a tremendous sense of teamwork as the company is 100% focused on making our Customers successful. There is never any confusion about that. 3) Constantly looking to do things better AND differently — We challenge ourselves every day to do things not just better, but differently and in a more digital way. This brings out the best in people.

Cons

You must be very self motivated and self-directed. We expect that employees will seek out context and identify ways to have impact within their teams but also across the company. If you are someone looking for a highly structured environment and/or someone that requires lots of day-to-day direction and hand holding, You will quickly feel lost at Apigee. You must be self aware and check your ego at the door. It’s the only place I’ve ever worked at where I can have days that I’ve felt incredibly productive yet I’m still feeling like I fell further behind. No job is too small regardless of what your career experience has been, so get ready to get your hands dirty — there is never a shortage of tough and interesting problems to solve, but fortunately we are surrounded by lots of smart and thoughtful people to help.

I am humbled by and grateful for this review. I am so pleased that we are creating an environment that has clearly resonated with our colleague in Customer Support. The poster's advice is to "keep doing what you are doing". My promise is that we'll try to improve upon what we're doing. Together. Thank you!!!

Pros

Apigee has really unique culture, smart & friendly colleagues plus great benefits. Org structure is fairly flat, not many fancy titles around. You are yourself responsible to perform well and build your own career in the company. Perfect, if this is what you are looking for.

Cons

For someone used to strongly structured companies, might be overwhelming. Lack of technology innovation for company products.

Thank you for this very thoughtful review. Agree entirely that "for someone used to strongly structured companies" Apigee can seem overwhelming. My hope is that the wonderful collection of colleagues will help each other navigate the unpredictable waters and drive collective success. Really pleased that you are enjoying Apigee. The Culture is Amazing

Pros

I would say the biggest asset about this place is that everyone cares. We care about our customers and the problems we're solving for them, we care about the work we produce, we care about the type of environment we are creating and we care about the people we work with everyday. This is the mentality almost everyone who walks through these doors has, and it really makes the place what it is.

Cons

Because of the type of culture and environment we have, it gets really difficult when people leave, and it can be discouraging at times.

Thank you for such a thoughtful review. I agree 100% with the biggest asset = everyone cares and I too get sad when people leave. But not discouraged as we have to acknowledge that in the hyper-competitive places like Silicon Valley and Bangalore there will be attrition. Fact of doing business. We will continue to be transparent, as you recommend. Really appreciate your thinking.

Great company which customer focus

Pros

Great culture (people, mentor) Fast reaction to customer demands (very active customer interactions, POC design) A bunch of great people with a wide range of knowledge (technology, strategy, sales) Concrete actions and delivery (it is all about what to contribute)

Cons

Being customer focus is not enough since there is a need to be ahead of what the customer need/want, There are some cliques (technical/nontechnical, new hire/old hire, previous company) that in term could create some problems, Sometimes acting too much at strategic consultant with high vision but no path to execution.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. I agree that we've built a pretty special culture and that we place priority on "fast reaction to customer demands" It's an interesting thought about being "ahead of what the customer need..." Clearly, this would be awesome. At the same time, this philosophy has plagued the IT industry with products, features, functions that have no market. As in all things, I'm sure that the right answer lies in moderation and balance. Please let me close by wishing you good fortune. I hope that your next experience offers you all that you are looking for and that you find happiness and success.
