Pros

Good colleagues in staff and faculty, wonderful students

Cons

State and University have lost focus on education; equity issues go unresolved though much lip service is paid; wages and benefits are not keeping up with inflation and cost of living (especially for those with student loans); no union or strong advocacy group; focus on football sucks money from academics and all other sports; student population growth without support for academics or regard for the Boone community has been detrimental to the academic mission, environment, and people in the community; focus on seats and beds rather than infrastructure to help students succeed; little regard for faulty governance; Chancellor focuses on growth that builds her career rather than sustainability and responsibility to students and the community; terrible university system leadership; institution does not follow health protocols for Covid adopted by other institutions to protect students, staff, faculty, and community

Pros

Great people try their best to advocate for you and help you move to a more stable position, but they have no power, not really

Cons

Constantly Asked to do training at the spot of a moment and figure out excessive amounts of new and varied tech platforms. now Pressured into providing mental health solutions and training for new students in crisis: meanwhile if you’re not on a stable contract…they don’t care if you’re immunocompromised, Simply no opportunity to succeed. Feels set up to fail as a teacher no matter what.
