Pros

Perks of an aspiring-Publicly traded company, there was a decent amount of transparency, and average benefits from all Bluestem brands. Sample sales were nice. In-building gym access was very nice. Summer Fridays were very nice.

Cons

Depending on your department, it was very difficult to advance your career. The workspaces are cubicle based (with relatively low ceilings and tons of fluorescent lights) and each department is sectioned off from others by walls - making if almost impossible to get to know any outside of your department and daily tasks. There was an undisclosed flexible working policy - meaning your department manager had final say if you were able to work from home or have any flexibility in your schedule. Laptops were sparse and only given on as-need basis. In the case of snow storms the office only closed when the state declared a state-of-emergency, which never happened, leaving employees to feel pressured to risk commuting or take a personal day off.

Tricky environment

Pros

Somewhat flexible, low stress, most FTEs don't seem to be working more than 40 hours/week - people leave at 5pm and are done for the day (mostly)

Cons

Upper management disorganized, no clear direction for brands or overall company except to hit EBIT. Nothing to filter that down to employees. A lot of long-time employees that are resistant to any change or welcoming new people, despite the fact that they've been acquired by another company.
