Unfortunate leadership for promising startup

Pros

Novel ingenious product with an excellent close knit competent team. API has gone out of their way to bring in highly skilled and experienced team members.

Cons

Absentee executive team who, for the most part, have kept the company in the dark on the state of the company's affairs. Clear obvious lies were told to maintain a positive outlooks despite 2 rounds of mass layoffs (half the company, then a third of the remaining). When asked about serious pressing matters, jokes and raffles were used to distract from convoluted vague answers Loyalty or hard work does not get rewarded. Only crying, whining, and complaining will be rewarded for a select chosen few. The executive team has made decisions which have created a whole bunch of former disgruntle employees. Minimal communication with teams about timelines, goals, or projects.

Politics over Science

Pros

A challenging but jovial work environment in the beginning. Great perks like food and refreshments made it easier to work 13h days. A novel business model that seemed promising. Excellent salaries for the market.

Cons

Bullying micromanagers ruined team trust, and politics were valued more than science. Some kind of weird loyalty between early employees resulted in bizarre promotions. People with no management skills promoted to key management roles with big fallout; demotivating to employees in general. Finally, a lay off right before Christmas? Thanks, that really made our holidays merry and bright.
