      If you are a family member you get treated quite well

      Cons

      They do not currently have non-profit status, though no formal announcement was made to employees sharing this information when it came to light Employees are paid poorly especially considering they are currently a for-profit company There are no checks and balances Movement in the company is not performance based Management has no actual management training and is unable to adequately staff projects and manage employees work loads No HR policies and many employees feel they are being taken advantage of High turnover

      Lost non-profit status - poor management

      Pros

      Great staff dedicated to serving clients well.

      Cons

      ASR lost its nonprofit status for not filing taxes since 2010 (according to the CA Attorney General) but never told any employees. The website still says it is nonprofit. CEO is married to the president and there is no HR or other person in finance or management. Finances for projects were a mess for customers. A new employee uncovered the fact that they were paying us salaried employees hourly (illegal) and had to hire an attorney to get them to change that. Am told that they have not been audited and that their board does not meet (and that it is comprised of other family members). Strong ethical concerns.

      Pros

      Small and intimate team that makes it easy to coordinate work with. A lot of meaningful projects that are rooted in deep care for community.

      Cons

      Lack of transparency from management about organization-wide decisions.
