Dishonest & Disconnected

Pros

The people are the most amazing and hard working individuals I've ever met. They want to do great work but the support of Head Office is horrid for all employees!

Cons

The head office is disconnected from the sites in the Arctic. They make promises they can't keep, the hiring process is a joke as the people that interview potential employees have no understanding of what is really happening the community. Once you move north all your access is gone and your only option is to work with Head Office. Head Office has a corporate structure which is perpetuating colonization and steeling from the poorest people in Canada. The "food insecurities" reported on is created and maintained by the Co-op business model. You will work every day until you drop or get sick if you care at all about what you do. There is NO support from Head Office as they "pretend" to be hands off while keeping all controls on ordering, freight, financials and processes.... It is insane!

Not a good experience

Pros

The pay seems good until you realize how many hours you’re actually working and that there is absolutely no work/life balance. In the long run, not worth it.

Cons

Poor management HR protects their hires at all costs, so if there an issue with a manager or another ACL hire , it will not be addressed. If you’re a good worker, team player and never complain to HR, you will be forgotten and taken for granted. Work hours are too long, stressful and difficult to have any quality down time. ACL employees in Winnipeg make a lot of assumptions but aren’t here on a daily basis so they can’t really see the big picture There are favorites and it’s difficult to gain acceptance within the company HR does not take harassment complaints seriously - they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk

Pros

None, dont work here if you're a POC. Baker Lake is a trash place full of ignorant people.

Cons

One of the worst companies I've worked for. They demand 100% effort from you but they won't reciprocate anything in return. Watch out for a guy named Cody Kiplin at this location if ever hired. He will demand you work while being sick, (COVID 19) and on your day off despite having a doctor's note. Even though he was wrong in this regard to ask me to do this, management still backed them because they are degenerates who literally side with whoever has more pull in the company. He oozes insecurity and if something isn't a problem he will try his best to make it a problem; up to and including slandering you just to make your tenure difficult. Imagine an "issue" happening early in your job career, and yet you have a guy still talking about it to Supervisors and management 4 months later after it's resolved? That's the level of insecurity and pettiness that he/they exhibit. Management like Cody, do as little as they can to get through the day, and then they will act like they worked the hardest. Not a good place for POC unless you hate yourself.
