A bittersweet place to work (don't plan on spending more than a year or two here)
Pros
Working on the floor (or Theaters team) of the ASC was very rewarding work. I loved my job and was filled with a sense of job satisfaction that I doubt I'll find again in the immediate future. There was a chance to really, really connect with people (guests and coworkers) and possibly influence the next generation of minds to start asking more questions.
Cons
Here we go... First and most damning, the ASC absolutely refuses to pay anyone who isn't one of their "senior staff" (the downstairs executives) anything close to a living wage. There is virtually no room for advancement in any form. Promotions are practically non-existent. Whatever position you get hired for, you can reasonably expect to stay in until your employment is completed, without a pay increase even over a few years. The management team exudes an incredible "us vs them" mentality. Quite frankly, they don't seem to understand or even care how things run upstairs. During my entire time there (a little over two years), MAYBE one or two of them ever sat in on one of my presentations. They have no idea how much any person actually contributes to make this place successful, and as such they have no problem firing people for minor to moderate offenses. During my time at the ASC there were no less than 5 people who were fired with no warning and seemingly for no reason. Several of the floor staff would also be regularly overworked, but they very rarely gave anyone full-time status, so you weren't eligible to receive health insurance or other benefits through the ASC for your time.
