Admin is AWFUL

Pros

Helping to care for some of the most vulnerable of populations- SMI.

Cons

Recent administration changes have ruined ASH. Nursing admin has ZERO psych experience and are terribly underhanded. CEO doesn't care about staff who do all of the patient care and he turns up his nose to anyone who tries to interact with him about how to improve things. Staff are assaulted on a regular basis. Patients are assaulted by other patients on a regular basis. ZERO support for floor staff from administration. Salaries are much lower than average for the job. Benefits used to be pretty good and a major selling point for the lack of pay but when you leave you find out their benefits are NOT so great. No longer promoting from within because they want to bring in their friends who are underqualified or NOT qualified to run the nursing department. ASH is the worst I have even seen it (in 20 years) under the current administration. Sad situation for long time employees who have seen the culture deteriorate at the hands of underqualified horrible nursing administration. The forensic campus is full of drugs and nothing is done to stop it. HR does nothing to stop upper managements targeting of staff.

Pros

There are no good reasons to work at this disgusting "hospital" if you want to call it that. More like a detention center. Its close to Mexican restaurant if you like greasy dirty cheap Mexican food of low quality.

Cons

Constant danger like getting your head smashed in as well as your testicles. Very negative atmosphere worse than prison. Security is a joke because they have to travel long distance just to get to you if your radio works. Over 90% turn over in 6 months. No one stays and those that do are Mentally ill also and many of the nurses just don't give a crap about the patients as well as the BHT staff who do all the work while the nurses hide in the nurses station/"bubble" When you get beat up then you get put on a list for termination due to you now being at risk to the hospital. There is no protection from the really crazy, violent patients there who may attack you at random for no reason. Intelligent people are afraid to work there for good reason. Mostly registry/on call staff who don't care and don't help the regular staff. The nurses laugh, goof off and don't give enough medications to keep patients calm. Very low pay and never any raises. Feces, blood, and urine all over the floors, bugs, filth Please don't work there.

Pros

ASH provides some amazing care to psychiatric patients. The benefits, mostly retirement, is good.

Cons

Administration changes every few years. The current administration is slimy and out for themselves. The current administration received extreme increases to their salaries while the front line received one (1) raise/market adjustment in over 10 years and were denied another the following year. Also, lots of favoritism and back stabbing. Health benefits are not as good as they used to be. High deductibles now
