I Wouldn't Recommend Getting a Job Here

Pros

Chocolate is a plus, but that is obvious. The early Fridays were nice but didn't make up for the week of madness

Cons

There is absolutely no communication, between departments and with in departments. When there is communication though, it makes you feel stupid and like you can do nothing right. It was hard to get through a day without wanting to quit on the spot. It was even harder to actually drag myself there day after day. The compensation was pennies compared to what the "community" members were making. The treatment of staff was LAUGHABLE. Unless you were a sales person or part of the community, you were replaceable. Also, no room for growth.

TERRIBLE COMPANY

Pros

Chocolate samples Early closings on Fridays

Cons

- Lack of management; self centered leadership - Zero work culture and extremely high turnover rate - Zero productivity and no professional processes in place. Whoever screams the loudest, gets their way type of mentality - Favoritism of Jewish community is glaring and borderline illegal, uncomfortable and at times toxic work environment -Unrealistic work expectations with way below average pay

Pros

- Get to be involved in tasting new flavors... once a year.

Cons

- It’s expected for their employees to take on more work without proper compensation. - Compensation is way below average and you get push back when you ask for a yearly review/raise. - When employees leave, their roles are not replaced accordingly so employee’s roles/responsibility change without management consulting the team. - Employee turnover is VERY high, yet management doesn’t acknowledge that there is a reason why this is happening. - THERE IS NO WORK CULTURE AT ALL. It is very obvious that there is a cultural difference and that people in the community are treated better/ put on pedestal over non community members. - Upper management don’t know what each person does on their team. - The lack of communication between departments and management is concerning. Nobody listens to anyone and management has a “no one is to blame” mentality when something goes wrong so no one takes responsibility. - There is no proper HR department. When there is a problem no one goes to HR because they won’t take you seriously and nothing gets resolved.

This is the HR Department responding: Typically we stay away from responding to negative comments online, however this is slanderous so we felt the need to respond. • Astor Chocolate’s retention rate with employees has actually been phenomenal. The average tenure of our team members has been 8.5 years. We have achieved that by providing career growth and opportunity followed by appropriately compensating our team members. On this note the company consistently sends our team members for training and professional development. To top it off we had quite a few team members take advantage of our generous tuition reimbursement program. • Diversity is at the core of our cultural belief. We have community members and non community members who work side by side for many years enjoying each other’s personal lives and celebrating momentous occasions together. We take tremendous pride and continuous precaution that everyone who works at Astor “feels at home”. • From a “work culture” standpoint, that is actually the easiest to address. Are there many companies that take 23 employees to training on culture with the Ritz Carlton? Are there many companies that are consistently thinking about their employee’s personal situations and adjusting their work schedules for them? Are there many companies that pay for child care? Are there companies that have wonderful programs like “Astor Acknowledges”, the list goes on and on. • Upper management and HR are consistently thinking of ways to create better experiences for our team members. Please feel free to reach out to us at 732-746-1016 to hear about our opportunities!
