The Best/Worst Company for Your First Job
Pros
I'm glad that most people in my department are young and fun. Thankfully, I haven’t had any issues with them. They're generally supportive and helpful to each other. There's no sense of superiority, no competitiveness. Everyone just focuses on their work and minds their own business, well at least in my department. As for the workload, it can be overwhelming at times since the team isn’t very large and most people handle multiple tasks simultaneously. However, it's still manageable as long as communication is maintained. People are generally understanding as long as you do your part. In terms of compensation, I think the company is fair. They tend to offer competitive pay if you have relevant experience, and annual increments are performance-based. Lastly, taking leave is relatively easy. You don’t need a strong reason or high level approval, as long as you give a proper heads-up. Management is usually quite understanding.
Cons
The downside is payday, which can be a bit inconvenient. You only get paid on the first day of the month, and if that date falls on a weekend or public holiday, your salary will be credited afterward. Another issue is that there's only one staff member in the HR department, which can make things a bit challenging. While the HR person is generally lovely, there are times when their behavior or responses can be frustrating enough to make you consider quitting. That said, I can assure you they’re not difficult all the time. Personally, I think the work benefits are quite limited, and I hope they add something more interesting in the future.
