Pros

My direct manager is highly supportive, and the company tends to run lots of events. Work arrangements are flexible between in office and remote. Generally relaxed culture, executives and leadership team are approachable

Cons

The process for approving a loan has become very unwieldy and difficult to manage. There is a lot of friction between the working groups and lack of a coherent workflow. Senior leadership opt for many changes in succession which results in cascading and accumulating issues due to insufficient change management and training. There is a strong expectation to work high amounts of overtime to get ahead. Though the culture is relaxed at times, it can be highly political regarding promotions. Many staff were also made redundant, some starting as little as 3 months ago. Athena has an extensive track record of purging temporary staff or staff on probation (as far back as 2019), so I would recommend all prospective employees to consider this prior to undertaking employment at Athena.

Pros

Ability to work remotely and casual culture in the office

Cons

Like a previous review said the positive culture at Athena is a bit of a front and the management is as ruthless as any big bank. Burn out is common with teams pushed to the brink. The culture appears positive but there is actually very little support if a team member gets stuck or has personal issues. Negative feedback on the process is taken extremely poorly and you are likely to get blackballed for any promotions or projects if you are too vocal. Many staff were also recently made redundant in what I can only call a case of extreme mismanagement. Marketing was pushed beyond the current team capacity (150-200%), and thus hiring efforts were made to accommodate this new volume of customers. At one point, there was just short of 2,000 customers that had not been spoken to. Some of the staff that were made redundant had only been with Athena for 1 to 3 months before being cut, as soon as the customer volume began to dry up.
