Pros

There are some brilliant people in this company, so there must be something right about the selection process.

Cons

Is there order in chaos? That's what upper management must think, but the reality is that there isn't. Conflicting priorities from people that have their own agenda, remote engineers hidden in a bunker developing the next version of the "product" and reappearing 3 years later like Moses presenting the 10 commandments from god, extremely opinionated engineers doing *whatever* they feel like with absolutely no control, incompetent product managers trying to 'manage' the mess, a customer function that sell technology they don't understand and then blame engineering ... and the list goes on. This chaos has lead to a toxic culture that top management does not acknowledge nor can control. On top of that there is an egocentric CEO/Chairman who is the text book definition of a seagull manager. Every visit to a remote office is followed by panic and frustration to try to reshuffle work that only holds until his next visit.

Atypon Systems Response

Sigh. As you can read in responses from prior years, May/June is the time of performance reviews and terminations. I am bracing for a few more of these. After 23 years on the job, I don't want to judge another CEO. I have been humbled too many times. And I was even successful in the role taking Atypon to the #1 position starting behind a dozen+ better financed and connected competitors. I don't think rapid-fire clueless decisions did it, but if that's what it was, well... I don't want to be disparaging to this ex-employee either. We are all human and I can feel frustrated at work, too. I am very proud of the quality and work ethic of our product managers as I am of all the other staff as well; it was an honor to be leading this group for so long through so many ups and downs and they have all been fabulous (well, most all ;-) Every project is 100% on JIRA btw; there is total transparency and there is a great process for releasing new features or technology to clients. We are not perfect but we are great at improving. Thank you for your advice. We don't like toxic team members either but we cannot follow one person's definition of such. We believe that investing in our culture is very important and we are increasing our time and commitment to that. Best wishes for your next adventure!
