Pros

The office is beautiful, and on the off chance a role closes, sometimes they bring in champagne to celebrate.

Cons

I wish I had read a review of Avanta Consulting before I started working there, because I would have kept looking. - The partners cannot manage a team, let alone a business. They speak poorly of employees to other employees, pitting them against each other. When I was interviewing, they said it was a supportive team environment, but as an employee, I shouldn't hear how an employee is underperforming. When you are interviewing, it looks like a cool office- grey walls, pretty art, young team, but they have the employees put on an act. In reality, they have a small team (because everyone quits or is fired), and the employees are chained to their desk from 8-5, with lunch (at the desk). - The office culture and atmosphere is hostile and tense. Past employees (myself included) have commented on the fact that the partners make you feel as though you will get fired at the slightest mistake. - Low pay, no benefits ($1000 towards medical, but it is almost impossible to get a refund), and in a sketchy part of town. - Once you've had the "are you happy here" talk, they are going to fire you. - They have ruined relationships with many clients, and their practices are what give recruiters a bad name. If your contract says you won't poach their employees, then don't headhunt their talent! - Don't expect to work for an innovative, forward thinking company. They use the same training manual, same documents, and same method that they used when Avanta started. Social Media recruiting is a smart way to recruit talent! - You do not know if you will get paid on time. Paydays were almost always late, and came with many different excuses. As an employee, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable where your pay is or why it is late, and it shouldn't feel as though your boss is doing you a favour by paying you. In recruitment, if you have earned a bonus, you should be paid that bonus on time. It should not be a monthly discussion as to whether or not you will be compensated. - If you quit, you will have to work HARD to get your final paycheque and commission. - It is easy to be persuaded to work at this company, because Jesse and Victoria are great at highlighting the good and dismissing the bad. It might seem like a young, hip company and great boutique recruitment firm, but looks are deceiving. They - If it means being unemployed for a while longer vs. taking a role with Avanta, please just keep looking.

Unethical, mean, two-faced and shortsighted.

Pros

You will meet connections while recruiting and if you keep yourself to a higher standard of conduct than the managing partners, those connections may be useful.

Cons

The managing partners demonstrate a horrible lack of integrity. They steal candidates from their most valuable clients and lie about it in an effort to cover up their tracks. They treat their employees like disposable pieces of garbage. While you're useful to them, they play nice but as soon as they hit a rough patch, they turn on you and bad mouth you to clients and other employees to try and cover up their own shortcomings. Once they dispose of you, you are forced to threaten or even take legal action to get money owed to you. They even keep token items, belonging to former employees, of little or no value that may be left at the office as a sort of trophy. It's weird and petty, but that pretty much sums them up. Once an employee has left/been fired, they trash talk them relentlessly. Everything is somebody else's fault but never their own. They don't seem to realize that people see through it, and know the same awaits them when they leave. They are constantly pulling people into meetings and out of business, even though they preach about a focus on activities. They don't seem to realize that THEY are the problem. They often share inappropriate stories about their drunken, drug-fuelled parties from the night before and frequently drink and drive. I would encourage any prospective clients or employees to conduct a reference check with former employees of Avanta. Any of us would be happy to give you a realistic preview into their shady practices. The positive reviews on here are clearly by the managing partners themselves. If you read them, they are remarkable similar. They’re too lazy to even do that right. This is the type of recruitment agency that people love to hate. It's all about making a quick buck no matter who they screw, be it clients, candidates or colleagues. I truly believe the founder is a sociopath who demonstrates an incredible lack of remorse and can turn from being a friend to an enemy on a dime.

Pros

Glossy marketing material, nice shiny image on the outside

Cons

I worked at Avanta for 6 months - and it was eye opening to see that sharks in the recruitment industry do exist The CEO has created a nice glossy company on the outside but treats his team like children Initially you are promised the world to work here and then you are talked down to and talked about to other team members Highly unprofessional and unethical - I left because I had no faith I would even be paid out my commissions (I have heard of past employees taking the CEO to Employment Standards to get what they are owed) For new recruiters or experienced ones - I would avoid this company like the plague.
