Pros

I was pretty excited when I got hired here. The work was satisfying, I felt like I was making a difference in the community. My co-workers have all been amazing, hard working people who do not get fairly compensated in the slightest. The people you actually work with are the only Pro of this job. People mention snacks, but Avero slashed what they will order for the staff.

Cons

They have made it crystal clear that they will not give anyone a raise this year, again. Straight from the horse's mouth: "....inflation has reached historic levels, causing our operating expenses to spike while Medicare/Medicaid and private insurance companies continue their efforts to reduce the amount they pay us for our services. This is placing significant financial pressure on our company. Of course, we are not alone in these challenges. We’ve all seen the news reports of layoffs by employers across the country as the economy sputters and corporate earnings decline. To be sure, these are difficult times for everyone, and I know many of you are concerned about your personal finances as the price of everything from gas and food to cars and homes continues to rise. Unfortunately, as much as we would like to be able to increase salaries and wages to help keep pace with inflation, we are simply unable to do that at the current time. " This company made so much money during the worst of the COVID pandemic, that they were able to buy another lab from Texas, which they have taken the name of: Avero Diagnostics. We are asked to cross train in multiple departments, and most of the time those they force to cross train do not have the legal credentials to do the work they are doing.

Pros

You get paid twice a month, sometimes for holidays there's free lunch. Gloves and lab coats provided.

Cons

Very easy to make mistakes because SOPs are very vague. New rules are put in place but only a few employees are informed. Allowing for the others to be written up. This comes from all levels of management. Very, very low professionalism. HR is only there to protect the company no interest in the employee. Cliches run rampant and decide who is given advancements. I haves and have nots are very obvious. Knowledge and degrees mean nothing. Many jobs are opened and filled secretly never being publicly posted within the company, filled with new outside employees. Growth within the company is promised and never received. No interest in cross training current employees. Work increased <50% but only received 2% raise. No bonuses, no 401k matching. Lab week is a farce. Leads are fascist dictators who know little about the job but all about how to get perfectly good employees fired. Revolving door of employees, most stay for less than six months. Always a sense of impending disciplinary action for expressing issues with work. Work place bullying is rampant in my department and others. Supervisors spend more time paying attention to who's talking to whom instead of focusing on their job.
