Pros

Good working environment, flexible to a point, ability to work with students in and out of department.

Cons

Very secretive and sneaky. Even if you think you are doing a good job and have had good reviews... they could blindside you with a lay off or termination. If you aren't all in with the mission or direction the University is moving you might find yourself on the outs.

Pros

- Vacation. You will earn a generous amount of PTO & sick pay - Further your education. Free tuition while employed - Social. Very welcoming and friendly faculty and staff

Cons

- Training. Besides being shown some of the sites and servers I would need to access, I received no training whatsoever and trained myself on the go. - Salary. Pay is very well below the average and there are no bonuses, regular raises, or any kind of incentive program. - Stagnation. No ability for internal career growth. It is a small school after all. - Hours. Even though the position is a 40 hour a week, salaried position, I often worked much longer hours. Even through many weekends and holidays. It felt like I was on call 24/7 - Leadership. I personally liked leadership most of the time. However whenever major issues arose, I found myself with no support or help and was often told to, "just get it fixed now." Whenever I had questions or concerns, I often felt dismissed and had to look to the internet to find answers. - Responsibilities. Your job responsibilities can and probably will change to include more or less work that needs to be done as is normal with a job. The Network Administrator left for a new position less than a year into my employment at Avila and their duties fell onto me. There was no raise to go with this second job and I was overworked to the point of tasks falling through the cracks. - The Pros. All three of the pros I listed are only pros if you can actually take advantage of them. I was underpaid, overworked, and self taught which led to not having enough money to take time off and relax, not having the time to further my education and take classes, and I was unable to interact with other co-workers unless it was related to an issue I was working on.
