Beware Circuit 13

Pros

Unfortunately, I should mention I am white and the racism I witnessed was absolutely disgusting in this office. If a black employee had any perceived issues, then a file was made to document their “failures” to be saved to fire them, even though employees of different races had the same or worse issues not documented. Black employees at this specific office could not make any comment without scrutiny and be torn down and called a bully. But the white employees could cry in the closet (literally and audibly, disrupting the office) and be dramatic about everything said, and claim the black employee was “bullying” them. Non-black employees could spread disgusting rumors and lies and not be called out- but god forbid one of the two black employees even speak without retribution. I loved the company and working with the clients- but beware of circuit 13.

Cons

There is a clique that is totally inappropriate- the new supervisor at the time had close friendships with specific people who could do whatever they pleased, but those standards were not held for the rest of the office. If you didn’t party with leadership of this office-which was evident through their social media- you were held to a different standard. I left solely on the basis of a toxic environment. It took working for a new company that does not tolerate this behavior to realize I was shamed into silence, and this behavior is immoral and illegal. I should have spoken up and demanded an exit interview to make corporate aware. But I didn’t know better then, so this is why I post this review now. If BAYS wants to continue to succeed, they need to address the racism and bullying issue at all their circuits- but specifically circuit 13. I don’t feel like I should say this again, but the issues were so awful for black employees I will- I was a white employee who witnessed disgusting behavior towards black employees and never personally experienced biased or racism since I am white. Though, I did experience issues with illnesses I should have officially filed with HR as a disability. I honestly felt if I did file FMLA paperwork, corporate would have been fine but the leadership of this circuit would have retaliated. Don’t even think about circuit 13 if you are black or have a disability. Corporate knows who their “problem children” are, and need to take action. Until they take action, this is a toxic work environment to be avoided if you are black, have a disability, or don’t party with the “right” people. I was involved in a car accident on the job, and when I called the person in place for the supervisor who was out of the office- I was told she didn’t have time - so I had to call the director who was kind and understanding. This is just another example of how the office leadership didn’t care. The fact I had to call a corporate worker to report my on the job accident was enough to show the care of my circuit- which was none. I felt pressured to return to the office sooner than I should have due to the new supervisor’s impatience with the timelines of my injuries healing. I dropped the worker’s comp claim due to this pressure and to this day have issues from that accident. I have amassed numerous medical bills to address the pain, but all out of pocket as I felt my supervisor would retaliate, because according to them I needed to be in the office ASAP. I regret not following though with the worker’s como procedures, but how is one supposed to when your supervisor thinks it’s trivial and repeatedly says you need to be in the office? New leadership is in place, but the same people who caused all the issues based on race are still there. I feel comfortable posting this review only after leaving- which is embarrassing since this should be a place where reporting such behavior should be accepted without fear. I worry for black clients who chose to participate with the program, as they may have a case manager biased against them as they are their own coworkers. It doesn’t matter that the new CEO happens to be black- this circuit discriminates as they please. This circuit doesn’t follow the corporate standards, and again I will say corporate is amazing. But until they get this circuit in check- avoid applying there as an employee or enrolling your child. Especially if you are black. But if you are fine with racism and favorites- then you should totally apply to work for circuit 13 since you will never be disciplined. If you are a parent offered this program and are black or have a black child- decline, the courts will do you better justice. I expected more from a non-profit. But it took leaving and working for a for profit business to have my eyes opened, and to realize that this behavior is immoral, illegal, and there should be a better process to report it. Again, I am ashamed this is how I am reporting this behavior- but this circuit fosters a workplace of silence when it comes to talking with corporate.

Pros

Serving both youth and families.

Cons

They are quick to put you on a chopping block if you don't get the hang of things within 90 days and they are very outward about it. That can could cause new team members to feel undervalued right away. I have seen people with MSW backgrounds mishandle employees diagnosed with ADHD. I have also seen people judge their colleagues because of their sexual orientation which I found extremely uncomfortable. Leadership can be unapproachable at times and irritable too. You have to drive there will be wear and tear added to your car. I have a had a colleague mention to me about one of the leaders being gay in a very judgmental way and that was very uncomfortable for me as well. I don't even think they have Case Management System so you have to do everything via PDF cheap and annoying. The culture is not that great the morale is very low but that's just my experience.
