A Real Shame

Pros

Currently, there aren't many pros. The good benefits, extra holidays, and shorter than average time required to earn more weeks of vacation are still in effect. A pool of outstanding, but floundering talent.

Cons

6 years of a raise freeze, multiple layoffs, longer and less creative hours, no new business, declining direction, and the total loss of a truly great and unique culture, has caused many creative and vibrant people, young and old, to move on and consider BBDO Atlanta as nothing more than a great resume entry. What is left behind is a lot of great (albeit confused and frustrated) folks, though the best are either gone or are polishing their resumes. After 7 months, the new president has done absolutely nothing to inform, much less inspire, the talent sitting right under his nose. His inability to recognize politically motivated advice and promises led to some very ill-informed choices during the last layoff. The Studio is but one, perfect example. Though he may have a plan (and has made a couple of charismatic speeches to that effect), there seems to be no real evidence of it. A recent promise of a new and well known client appears to have failed over pricing. This is not a good time to start a career at BBDO. Nor is it a good time to stay. The fun and pride are gone.

Work hard, play hard

Pros

This is a fun place to work, the people who work here are very nice people. Hours are very flexible, there are a lot of little perks like free popcorn, tea, coffee, and occasional catered breakfasts.

Cons

The expectation is that people work hard, and work long hours this includes weekends. We've been hit hard by the recession, and there have been several layoffs since 2008. The biggest issue right now is lack of compensation. People haven't gotten raises for a very long time, and this has had a big impact on employee satisfaction.

Pros

-Office location was decent -A few really redeeming folks to work with, none of whom were management

Cons

-Crazy low pay, way below industry standard -Upper management doesn’t value the little folks -Raises and promotions are terribly hard to come by. We were in a constant hiring freeze which made turnover so high, rightfully so -A horrible exclusive culture that only values the creatives -Expectation to work insane hours and be on call at all moments. No boundaries with clients -Poor resource management. Resources always went to pitches and never paying clients -Traditional, outdated methods. Truly thinks and functions like a 1960s agency -Really uncomfortable relationships between disciplines, so little collaboration or respect
