Terrifying incompetence at executive leadership level
Pros
Beautiful campus. Outstandingly driven and smart students. Many wonderful, dedicated and hard-working employees.
Cons
The last four years under the current president have brought devastating level of dysfunction and employee turnaround to Babson College. The undergraduate school is on its third dean in less than three years. The graduate school loses on average a dean every 2.5 years. Three provosts in 3 years. CMO hired and fired in 4 months. President is flailing and exhibiting severe deficiency of leadership skills or vision. She doesn't care for the students and alumni and is unable to connect with them. At any college event, she is moved around by a handler - no doubt a leftover attitude from her days as Mitt Romney's second in command - to help facilitate her socially awkward attempts to speak with students, alumni and staff.. Deeply focused on her personal agenda, her response to any attempt of staff to help her understand the school culture and competitive landscape is met with contempt and threats. The school is bleeding talent and has become the biggest revolving door for senior and executive leadership among all schools in Boston. Most importantly, the entrepreneurial spirit that the previous president built and the inspiration he created for students and staff are vanishing fast. The current president is unable to embrace entrepreneurship and has relegated all attempts to keep the spark alive to HR - with disastrous results.
