Pros

The pros were the clients and the degree of creativity that was given to direct care staff in organizing and designing groups and outings. I also worked with a few amazing staff members that were very competent and supportive in an awful and unsafe working environment. I also felt that the director at the time had good intentions and tried his best, however his hands were tied by he co-director and upper management.

Cons

This place was ran by what seemed to be burnt out and misguided management that appeared to worry in the end about only filling beds, perpetuating staff conflict & gossiping, and in turn created an unsafe and unstable environment for their clients and staff. They could never hold on to good & competent staff, as you can see by the constant adds in Craigslist. Soon after I left however management resigned (or was asked to leave) so hopefully conditions are improving.

Pros

None that I can think of at this moment.

Cons

Expect 0 training, 0 supervision, 0 cooperation. Program directors can and do make arbitrary rulings without considering the negative impact on the workflow, or the impact on the clients. In this type of work, consistency is necessary as clients will focus on the inconsistencies and not on themselves and this tendency among the poorly educated, poorly trained program directors to change rules without cause or reason makes the work all the harder. Working in such a negative and toxic environment impacts your ability to deliver services to the clients and impacts the workplace environment. There's a reason why Baker is running help wanted ads constantly it's a soul crushing place to work and the turnover is constant.

Pros

Some staff actually know what they are doing and are informed of topics. Benefits are great. Pay is good unless regular on-call.

Cons

Directors become oblivious to staffs behaviors that are negative to anywork place environment. You have to finish others people's work. No support from mgmt. Coworkers are no better than clients.
