Pros

No timesheets Free sneakers and beer I was almost always paid on time Most of the people are truly lovely and talented You learn fast and get to work on a variety of projects Some people seem to love working here and maybe it just wasn't for me There is now a dog-friendly office with a bar

Cons

If you interview here, you may notice red flags– listen to those red flags Very little training and little to no mentorship or resources Lots and lots of turnover, speaks for itself IMO Many false promises, especially regarding clients and initiatives. A coworker there once said it had pyramid scheme vibes and I think about how accurate that felt a lot Another review said leadership has sketch my vibes and I have to agree; among other things, I heard several porn jokes from leadership in my time there that were seemingly made to be edgy (it was just cringe instead) General lack of professionalism/respect under the guise of being "not corporate"/fun The company spent a lot of $$ to take people on a company retreat, then furloughed (never to be brought back) and fired people shortly after which was demoralizing Leadership said personal pronouns are annoying and went on a rant about gender identity and cancel culture after I mentioned that my partner is nonbinary, so I maybe wouldn't work here if you're gender non-conforming/not cis Generally witnessed a lot of people be mistreated both internally and by the client

Beware of Burnout

Pros

- Employees are challenged constantly, which allows for several growth opportunities - Most talented, passionate, ambitious team I've ever worked with - Product innovation work is unparalleled vs. other agencies

Cons

- Burnout rate and employee turnover is high – employees are pushed to their limits - Teams and employees are often pitted against each other - Junior employees are put in positions with limited resources, support and training and expected to "figure it out" - Very little mentorship from seniors and leadership - Direct, clear internal feedback is nonexistent - Leadership is disconnected from the day-to-day business activities - Leadership allows clients to dictate timelines and workflows - Employees are frequently put in client-facing positions where they are set up to fail, but expected to succeed - Internal coaching on presentations is exclusively negative, instead of helping employees find their voice or amplify their strengths - Leadership is dishonest about the new business pipeline - No plans to resume in-person work or collaboration - Poor work/life balance is not compensated in any way (perks, salary, etc) - Poor culture and long-term brand vision

Bakery Agency Response
4y
Thanks for the notes. Many of these callouts are fair. We've certainly struggled often in getting our bearings during the pandemic. Bakery has always been an in-person company and being exclusively remote for 2 years threw things for a loop. Everything turned into a Zoom meeting, there wasn't a natural break between home and work life, and our hours increased astronomically for the first 12-14 months. While we have achieved better live-work balance results since August of 2021, we believe we won't completely return to our previous successes running a balanced time load until we go back to the office. It's unfortunate to read that you believe we have no plan to return to in-person work, as we have publicly put a plan in place with our team and pulled the entire team's opinions on what would be the best way to make it happen. It's unfortunate that you started remote and ended remote. I really feel you didn't get to experience Bakery in our standard environment and culture. I appreciate your suggestions and promise we will continue to learn and grow. -Micky

Lots of work, little reward

Pros

The pay and benefits are good, and the people I worked with day-to-day were all hard-working and nice.

Cons

This word gets thrown around a lot, but there’s no way to describe Bakery’s culture other than “toxic.” When I joined, I was told to ignore the negative Glassdoor reviews; the leadership team said that the agency had some problems in the past, but they were moving forward. I found this to be far from the case. Favoritism is rampant, organization is non-existent (miraculously, the entire agency is run through Slack), and the leadership team is certainly less than transparent. In nearly every project I was on here, me and my team were working round-the-clock, pulling late nights and working on weekends. I’ve never been pushed harder in my professional life, and yet I felt completely dissatisfied — mainly because the direction of nearly every project I worked on was dictated by the higher-ups, with little room for others to advocate for their own ideas. Also, while the owner is well-intentioned, he would often act in a way that would make me feel very uncomfortable (for example, he ranked all of the employees’ significant others by order of how much he liked them after our Xmas party). While this behavior bothered several of my co-workers as well, everyone was too afraid to speak up. I wouldn’t recommend this agency to anyone.
