Pros

You will gain life skills and politics. Some one meantioned "Hustle" in a review, I agree. Learn to go over 100% and give it all you've got. Bunch of fun people to work with and learn from.

Cons

You most likely will be dismissed in less than a year and will not be able to exercise your share options in the company. Will be under paid thinking this is a job opportunity of a life time. Company is based on a very questionable IP: Stearing a beam of laser by changing wavelength through a prisim. This has been around for 100+ years. Company started by promissing a Lidar System with no moving parts. Not achieved, and will not be achieved based on the technology that they are using. This is a basic law of physics. If you already have a job, do not risk losing it to work at Baraja. It may seem interesting and cutting edge, but in reality it is not. Baraja product does not qualify for use in Automotive industry. It doesn't even work reliably in a controlled lab environment. They have managed to market it well with talking up the product and not providing the full picture to their clients or the investors. I guess that is normal these days.

Christmas is cancelled! Unpaid overtime, weekend work and redundancies

Pros

If unpaid overtime, voluntary weekend work, regular leave request denial and spontaneous unexplained redundancies for long-term employees is your thing - look no further! The fellow employees are great, nice and friendly and we felt we were having a good time... but maybe there was an element of Stockholm Syndrome and, upon reflection, maybe we were afraid to see if there was anything else out there?! The tech is cool and the problems to solve present intellectually challenging design problems. Health insurance for all the workplace injuries, mainly due to lunchtime sports. Beers and BBQs on Fridays were great.

Cons

Christmas is cancelled being a yearly occurrence. No leave allowed in run up to Christmas, starting in August. Unpaid overtime being the norm such that management assume it is taken into account in project planning. No time in lieu policy. Strong advice from management to come in for voluntary weekend work or risk not being put forward for future opportunities. 24h notice for redundancies of long term employees - no consultation period or option of taking voluntary redundancy. No clear medium-long plan visible to employees, all held secret in upper management.

Pros

Baraja was an amazing place to work. The workflow is extremely fast-paced with big changes being made quickly, everyone is extremely intelligent and the product alone is fascinating enough to make work really enjoyable. Before covid hit, Baraja had a really fun culture with frequent parties and drinks, lots of opportunities to celebrate.

Cons

Baraja took a huge hit with covid. A large chunk of employees were made redundant with less than one day's notice, and told to immediately stop work that same day. I didn't have time to communicate with my colleagues before I was disconnected from the network. It was all very rushed and took the company by surprise. The remaining company all took a considerable pay cut. The morale of the company took a big hit. And now they are now hiring again only 4 months after making so many redundancies. Either way, I would not recommend this company anymore due to low job security, lower pay, and the way the lack of communication or consideration of their employees makes me feel that I was not valued as an employee.
