Terrible Management and Morale; High Turnover

Pros

BCI has a very meaningful mission that serves an important role in the conservation community. Too bad they're so ineffective.

Cons

For a 28 person organization, the turnover is unbelievable; 4-7 individuals quit or fired every single year. Extremely poor leadership; every year, every supervisor is a new "strategic" direction. Terrible managers; individuals that are untrained and unsuited for management are in supervisory roles. This makes for a terrible and stressful work environment with the lowest morale of any place I've ever worked at.

Pros

Good mission. While everyone was keeping their heads down wondering who was going to be fired next, they did good work and we tried to help each other. The scientists know their stuff and are really dedicated. My department did its best to invest in professional development.

Cons

The CEO only communicated to fire people. Morale was incredibly low. People were frequently fired for bringing up legitimate issues or asking for more compensation for all the extra work they were doing. CEO also said that he only wanted use pictures of "cute" bats that looked like puppies. We're not Only Cute Bat Conservation International.

Decent benefits and PTO. Program staff very pleasant.

Cons

Complete lack of culture and or trace of humanity. If you enjoy a total lack of decency, leadership and absent “strategy” in your workplace, BCI is for you.
