Pros

- Great brand - Financially stable - Battersea has a lot of money - Location - close to the park and Battersea Power Station - Like-minded people - Very supportive colleagues and managers

Cons

- So many basics aren't done well for example we have no vehicles to transport animals with aircon so as soon as it gets hot out everything stops. Why something so simple hasn't been fixed after years of it being a problem is incredible, especially given our very strong financial position - Overworked. Most days I don't get a lunch break or if I do take one I feel bad about it. But then I read on our intranet how much Battersea supports work-life balance. It doesn't add up. - Massively short-staffed in my department. We just don't have enough people to support our workload. - The team is wonderful and the job could be too if the higher ups would make the conditions better - The higher ups seem to have forgotten our core cause which is to look after dogs and cats. Battersea seems determined to go global and the focus seems to now be on helping dogs and cats overseas when we still have so much work to do at home.

Pros

Pay in this position is the better pay of local charities, the company gets lots of funding and has a good online system for the actually work

Cons

The team is very cliquey, the team leaders act like school girls and will punish you if you do something they don’t like - if you aren’t in their favours you will get the most problems. The company itself is very backwards for a rescue charity, the new ideal is “we’re not here to save lives, we’re here to rehome”. Last year the company pts 25% of dogs. management will make decisions on pts without actually listening fully to kennel staff and have actually re-written dogs behaviours to favours them being pts. They don’t consider continued training with dogs, it’s all short term stays that can create the highest turnover. It’s all about the money not the actual dogs or cats. Cats are pts if they don’t learn to use a litter tray in a week. Very difficult to progress as it’s up to your team leads on weather you can do training and shadow other departments
