Pros

Interesting business idea, good products, some kind and nice people, good away days and Christmas parties

Cons

- They hire good, talented people who are then not allowed to do their jobs as the senior management team, who are ill-equipped, are too scared to challenge the founder, who wants to do everything herself, and wants 'yes people' around her to facilitate this - Quite a gossipy, malicious environment which is fuelled further by HR who seems to thrive on this. - HR is unprofessional and will tell you things about other colleagues/business decisions before it's "official" - Won't do your career any good. Still in start-up mode and therefore you'll be fighting to progress, learn anything or use any of your skills/experience - Founder picks and chooses her favourite people. If you're in, good for you. If you're not, it won't be a happy place to be - High turnover of staff. Several people, including very senior people and heads of departments have all left very quickly - many without jobs to go to, as they were so keen to leave - Seeing your colleagues, who are kind and talented people, become sad, stressed and depressed coming to work every day - Weak management who haven't received any training and haven't tried to do anything to rectify the toxic culture.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we value all feedback whether positive or negative. We try very hard to be open and honest during the hiring process about the realities of working in a founder led, start up environment and are sorry if you feel that the reality for you was not what you expected. I am also sorry to ready your views on the HR team as we strive to always conduct ourselves in a professional way, whilst being as open and honest as we can. We see the sharing of information as a key way to engage people in the decisions taking place. I would encourage you to come and speak to me directly if you feel you have examples of where you feel information shared did not fit with our aims so we can address this for the future. As a current employee I hope you have taken the opportunity to use our recent employee engagement survey as a way of also sharing your views to allow us to address any issues. This survey works best when we can get specific examples of situations or areas that you are unhappy about in our culture. I am glad to hear you enjoy some of the events we have for our employees, such as the staff parties and away days and we are always looking at different ways to rewards and recognise the hard working teams here. There are number of channels open to you as a current employee to share your views with us internally to give us a chance to investigate and respond to your concerns and I hope that by doing this you can give us a chance to offer support and make changes where they are needed.

An awful place to work

Pros

Ignore the recent spate of presumably HR-authored 5-star reviews. Yes, there are perks like a 20% discount, and a brand new office in central London but any praise for what it’s like to work at this company should be seen for what it most likely is: damage control and an opportunity to pump up a Glassdoor rating that would be shocking without their intervention.

Cons

Beauty Pie is a deeply dysfunctional and chaotic company. This is largely down to an executive team who lacked the relevant industry experience necessary to handle a pivotal moment of expansion and continue to evade accountability by shifting blame to anyone but themselves - the founder being the most common target but no one is off limits, including the investors. This has resulted in a highly political and paranoid company culture where loyalty is rewarded over talent and hard work, and where people with the experience or tenacity to challenge the status quo are treated as threats rather than assets and subjected to the sort of nasty bullying that’s been so accurately described in the other recent (legitimate) reviews on this site by people whose conduct wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere else. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to be the sort of person that would thrive at a company like this. Look elsewhere.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback on Beauty Pie. I am saddened to hear this has been your experience of working with us so far. At Beauty Pie we believe in an inclusive and diverse culture, and as such we recognise that diversity in experience means we have a broader range of thoughts and ideas to help us grow our business. This is true of our Senior Leadership team who come with experience from a variety of different businesses and sectors. We take all accusations of bullying very seriously and encourage an environment where all employees feel comfortable to share their concerns with either their line manager, People team or Legal team. We have a robust internal process for raising concerns and grievances and encourage all employees to use that process as a forum to raise concerns so that they can be dealt with in the appropriate way. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the People team, so we can further discuss your concerns and find solutions to create a more positive working environment for you.

Pros

I've witnessed the dedication and hard work put into every product, ensuring that they meet and exceed customer expectations.

Cons

1. Inept Leadership Team: One of the most glaring issues is the complete failure of the leadership team. It's evident that they lack a clear vision and strategy for the company's future. Their decisions often appear to be impulsive and disconnected from the realities of the industry. This lack of direction has left many employees feeling lost and demotivated. 2. New CEO's Agenda: The arrival of a new CEO has only added to the chaos. Instead of inspiring confidence and providing a sense of direction, this CEO seems solely focused on cost-cutting measures, including layoffs. It's disheartening to see talented colleagues leaving the company because of this new agenda. Morale is at an all-time low, and the fear of job insecurity hangs over everyone's head like a dark cloud. 3. Toxic Workplace Culture: The toxic atmosphere at Beauty Pie has become unbearable. Everyone is on edge, afraid to speak up or voice their concerns, for fear of retribution. It's become a place where politics and backstabbing are the norm, rather than collaboration and innovation. This toxic culture has eroded trust and camaraderie among colleagues. 4. Back-to-Office Excuse: The company's decision to mandate a return to the office is being seen as nothing more than an excuse to get rid of people. Many employees have proven their ability to work remotely effectively, but the leadership seems determined to force an outdated, one-size-fits-all approach. This has left many employees feeling undervalued and disposable.
