Pros

The concept of the company is amazing - inclusion, diversity, empowerment -- and then it stops.

Cons

The CEO is a narcissistic, foul-mouthed, abusive bully who takes delight in verbally lashing employees at every level in public settings. She deliberately encourages an environment of distrust, collegial disrespect, and gossip and is volatile -- often shouting and sometimes raging out of control. Her behavior isn't befitting her title and responsibility and the false face she puts on in front of fans, celebrities, and investors is sickening. As an executive, she didn't frighten me but the number of young people she has abused and who think all work environments are like that, is disheartening. She has no business acumen, preferring to gauge success by the number of Instagram posts she is tagged in rather than fostering an accountable and financially stable organization. Most of her decisions are poor ones. Additionally, she deliberately holds back payments with excuse after excuse; whether for lack of capital or for sport -- both are inexcusable. There is not one single redeeming thing about this woman.

Let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to share your personal thoughts, perspective, and feedback with our team. Indeed, Beautycon is powered by our commitment to inclusion, diversity, and empowerment within our evolving corporate culture and the spectacular community we serve. While your personal experience is not in alignment with our current corporate culture and evolving leadership team’s vision for the future, your feedback is greatly appreciated. Beautycon’s number one commitment is to learn from both positive and negative feedback while building a corporate environment that is safe and healthy for every member of our team, which is why we’ve made such vital internal leaps during the recent months and will continue to do so. Beautycon, our leadership, and the community we serve will continue to learn from past imperfections and mistakes as we focus on getting better and growing daily. Thank you for taking the time to share and help us improve as a result.

Pros

A story of a laughable CEO you can tell your kids years later.

Cons

If you’re a potential employee or investor considering Beautycon, run far far away from this disaster as fast as you possibly can. Ignore any positive reviews on Glassdoor because they are fake. I know this for a fact because I know the employees who were forced to write them. Only pay attention to the negative reviews because those are the only real ones. This is the most poorly run company you could ever imagine. The Beautycon responses on Glassdoor that say “it is only a bit stressful here because we are a startup in growth mode and passionate about changing the culture and big changes are coming with the new President” are just cover ups to hide how dysfunctional Moj, the CEO, is. By the way, that new president they mentioned quit after 30 days (more on that below) so those culture changes are not coming. And the company has been around since 2011 so it’s not a startup, it’s just unsuccessful. Moj is a loud self-centered psychopath and is in the faces of all the employees. She has no skills, hardly any work experience, no college degree, has no understanding of what goes into the work, no EQ, and is openly insecure about how to run a company. Because of this, the average newly hired employee usually lasts only about 3 or 4 months, so just about the entire company turns over every year. Impossible to run a business that way. She hired a very competent and seasoned President who had been at Estee Lauder for 35 years and was supposed to change the Moj culture, but after experiencing Moj, the president quit after just 30 days. Moj even fired her own good friend and general counsel after just a few months. She pushed out 3 marketing heads after only about 3 months each. She pushed out 2 event production heads and Beautycon is an event production company. It goes on and on. Just her being involved with the company hurts it more than any other internal or external factor. Common knowledge around the company is that Beautycon would be much better off without her. However, she is masterful about never accepting this fact and always finding someone or something else to deflecting the blame on to, which is why there are so many firings and resignations. The staff work really hard, but they all eventually either break, or are corrupted and sickened by Moj. To survive, they must become two-faced or leave. The issues all stem from the CEO. Although Moj says she doesn’t like Trump, she is just like him. She only wants yes men around her, unashamedly expresses her ignorance in front of large groups, and childishly throws personal insults at everyone. In an all hands meeting, she thought the issues with the company were because we did not understand her well, so she created a ridiculous and conceited presentation about herself. In it she said that her dysfunctional personality was not an act and that she won’t change since that is just how she is. She told us that she isn’t trying to be our friend. She also attributed her neurosis to having taken a lot of acid when she was younger. What kind of CEO admits this sort of thing let alone proudly declares it in a professional company meeting? Moj talks about how much she smokes weed and takes CBD (sometimes during meetings) just to cope. She actually said to all of us, “I demand loyalty, I mean Godfather-like loyalty from all of you. You had better not be applying anywhere else because I will find out and you won’t like that”. She is well known for vindictively trying to sabotage the careers of former employees after they leave by calling the new employers. So childish. She constantly threatens to fire people to keep them working hard and so often makes people cry during work. She demands loyalty to her, but after a festival, laid half of us off the next day. She said “it’s just business”. She is a hypocrite and only uses people as stepping stones for her own pursuits. In most team meetings she will publicly berate and try to humiliate team members during the entire meeting, sometimes lasting hours, and encourage others to back her humiliating the employee. She will pin people against each other in meetings and then later say she hates drama. In a twisted way, she probably believes public humiliation will motivate us. She is a child who has no idea what she’s doing, changes the team’s course constantly day to day making executing well thought out plans difficult after they have been set in motion, and then blames everyone else for the trouble this causes. There is supposed to be unlimited PTO but she discourages people from taking any time off and is ultra suspicious when they do. She only opted for unlimited PTO to save the company money. She wanted to fire an employee for wanting to take off for his wedding which he had requested a year in advance. But at the same time, she has been known to take vacations herself to Hawaii. Employees regularly get so stressed by the antics of the CEO that they physically become sick and need to go on medical leave just to take some time off and get back their sanity. Moj is the most incompetent self-centered person you will ever know who feels entitled to everyone to giving her their lives without giving them anything in return. Heed my warning and stay away from the poison that is Moj.

On behalf of Beautycon, I want to extend my sincerest apologies for the negative experience you had with our company. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention as we have expanded our team with seasoned leadership and are currently restructuring all of our corporate protocol. While the company’s trajectory has been a balance of meteoric rise and humbling lessons, we continue to evolve and make meaningful changes. Anything short of inspired, positive leadership is unacceptable and not the climate we support or will tolerate. Since its inception, Beautycon has strived to uphold the values of accountability, transparency, and trust towards its employees and with our new leadership, we pledge to make this fundamental obligation our top priority! We appreciate the insightful feedback and we'll continue to listen, learn and grow.

Pros

You get to work on some cool things and meet some good people. I was lucky enough to make good friends here.

Cons

This company is a disaster. You will hate working here without a doubt. Your leaders will be disorganized and lazy. They will pawn off work onto you. You will be tasked to work on things that have nothing to do with the company and more to do with personal insta feeds. COMMUNICATION: Communication at this company is public shaming. You will be yelled at and chewed out in front of everybody. The only question is how often. EMPLOYEE TURNOVER: Over my time at Beautycon, I saw too many people come and go. Some quit, most were fired on the whim of the CEO or Department heads. The turnover rate is so bad that you will be one of the older employees if you make it through six months. WORK CULTURE: Don’t be fooled by their “no labels” mission statement. Labels will be pinned on you every day. Introverts are seen as lazy and as a deficit to the company. People will talk behind your back and only see your flaws. I’ve seen good people shed tears over being called terrible things by coworkers, bosses and the CEO. YEARLY REVIEWS: If you take a job here and you want a raise, you have to threaten to quit. Otherwise, you won’t get anything except a title change. OVERALL: Do yourself a favor and skip over Beautycon. You won’t be happy here. Now, will you make friends? Yes! Just like how soldiers become brothers through their shared trauma. You meet great people and the smiles on people’s faces at the convention almost make the job worth being treated like an object. If you need the work, just keep your head low and stay as invisible as possible. As soon as management decides they don’t like you, no amount of good work will save you from the constant belittling and the fear of losing your job on a daily basis.
