Overflowing with talent, but management and not talent driven

Pros

-Extremely talented and friendly developers to work beside each day. -Occasional team-building outings. -Relatively flexible working hours.

Cons

-Lots of overtime with no or less-than-fair compensation. -A game development process that is heavily bureaucratic (and lacks clear leadership). -Top-down (that is, management and marketing) driven game designs. -What the developers consider to be fun and good craft is not seriously valued by the management team. -Little to no signs that meaningful change will come.

Lots of potential but lacks leadership, direction and process

Pros

There are some great people in the organization and to work beside each day. There is an overall passion for making games and is a very casual work environment offering flexible hours.

Cons

- Upper management is too involved in the game making process, making detailed decisions (about color, for example) without respecting the timeline of a project, technical requirements or pending deadlines - Things change overnight, they make decisions then change them the next day - There is no process (if there is, it’s always circumvented by upper management) - They lack business and production planning - Lack of leadership and communication – no one know what’s going on and who is making decisions. Very heavy in management for a small company - CEO often talks to people inappropriately and can, at times, create a negative work environment - Lack of trust for the development team - Keeps making the same mistakes over and over without learning - Often give out job title changes without the matching compensation - Heavy workload - Lack of employee recognition
