Pros

The people are amazing - best group of people I've ever worked with. Great product too.

Cons

The workload is bigger than hours in the day - except that when you're a flexible workplace, it's all hours of the day. Work life balance can quickly become nada. There's a bit of a disconnect between 'departments' even though it's an open plan office so communication is a big issue. There's also a slight conformist attitude that underlies the culture, despite how progressive it is.

Pros

For a startup to really make it big, they have to polish every single facet of the company. Bellroy really shines here, and has amazing processes that makes it feel very super well organised for a small company. There is constant exposure to all of the founders, and they really do appreciate the expertise that you are bringing. I suspect that no proposal would be too outlandish to raise, the team has a rigorous approach that means decisions are made based on evidence and expected impact, so if you really believe something could be improved it will be easy to get the attention the idea deserves. I definitely learned faster at Bellroy than I have at any other company to date, thanks to the constantly changing challenges and proximity to the founders. The culture is decidedly cool, and while people perform their work exceptionally it still feels quite laid back, and it's easy to get along with anyone. If you are a surfer then hitting up Bells Beach in the morning is not unusual, but I personally was a cafe fan and enjoyed the flexibility in choosing when and where I could work.

Cons

There's not a lot of room for uncertainty. If you don't know something, you have to work out how to find it out. If you ask for assistance it is readily provided, but I did not receive as much unsolicited feedback or advice as I would have liked.

Good for some, not for others

Pros

Nice 'tech company' benefits Considerable product discounts Generally friendly employees Nice office - decent snacks and drinks available Work from home flexibility

Cons

The experience at Bellroy is heavily based on the team you are part of. Teams are very segregated, little crossover socially. One team in particular is very 'clicky'. Like the popular kid group in a high school. Many other teams keep to themselves. Unless you've been at the company 2+ years, good luck with 'career progression'. HR is lacklustre - 'wear double socks' as a solution to cold unfriendly concrete floors. Individuals that have been around for a long time struggle to understand concerns at a deliverables and processes level. Too focussed on company growth without seeking advice or insight for how to grow or improve from people actually doing the work. Compensation review was one sided. A percentage gets put in front of you and you can accept or negotiate in a lengthy process.
