Thoughtful colleagues, good benefits, sometimes technocratic work
Pros
- good pay and benefits - flexible work culture and style (in terms of setting your hours, working from home or abroad, taking care of family/personal life during work hours, casual dress, etc.) - thoughtful, smart, caring and dedicated colleagues - leaders open to detailed feedback from staff and carry out careful review processes for all team members
Cons
- overwhelmingly white leadership (at least at the time) - inconsistent application of policies and values — especially as it relates to leadership - a lot of technocrats and people from private-sector consulting, which can dilute the mission and make the work feel removed from students - some roles regularly work 60+ hours/week and there's an attitude that it has to be this way and can't change - workaholic culture
