Pros

Pretty campus, few student discipline problems, smart and professional faculty, abundance of resources for teachers and students, parental involvement, high student engagement.

Cons

Administration rules by fear, threats, and scrutiny without due diligence to examine core issues. Management treats faculty like inferiors but creates an image that teachers are well-respected, trusted, and supported. Teachers are always in fear of their jobs and how they are perceived by administration and parents. 50+ hour work weeks are the norm.

Pros

Students are, on average, a pleasure to teach. Parents are equally easy to work with in most cases. Some very intelligent, earnest people working for the company

Cons

Management on almost every level is incompetent. It can be embarrassing to watch the process by which decisions and policies get made. They have forced many, many good people and truly excellent teachers to leave over the last few years, which they are happy to see, as they can replace them with cheap, transient part-time employees.

Pros

All in all, the students are a pleasure to work with. Many of my colleagues were also brilliant and amazing. The facilities are, on the surface, amazing, too.

Cons

While it might look like a liberal arts college, don't confuse that with any real investment in cultivating genuine inquisitiveness or intellectual curiosity in the students. Hoop-jumping and results are valued over the learning journey in all aspects of student life, and this philosophy is engendered from the top down. When evaluating accepting a job here, look at the teacher retention rate and at how many administrators actually currently teach classes, even one class--if they've ever taught at all. My experience was that BPS is run like a business, which might appeal to some, but it was not an environment that promoted great teaching (in my opinion). They will make you feel like you're completely expendable, and as though there are hordes of better teachers knocking at the door, just waiting to take your place.
