Pros

The mission attracts some amazing people. I am so grateful i was hired when BPF was still a mission centric company. My colleagues were some of the most empathetic and intelligent people I have ever met. Was able to learn so much from them over the past year.

Cons

BPF claims to be changing the EOL industry yet we hire leaders with strictly SaaS sales experience and the same cookie cutter ideas on how to run a sales org. Revenue is all that matters and there is zero empathy for the hard calls the sales team goes through each day. There was even a point when it was declared “unacceptable” for a sales rep to take extra time to prepare for a call with a someone who just lost their child. All that matters is KPIs and making the company $$. Leadership makes this clear with how/when they choose to recognize and support their employees. They will scream and shout with giphys and congratulations when a big sale goes through. But when a rep shares the actual experience of that sale and what it’s like being on the phone with a grieving customer…..radio silence. I think it should be required for every leader to get on the phones themselves to understand the true impact these calls have on our mental health. This is not software sales. We are not robots.

Pros

All of my coworkers were wonderful people.

Cons

- Unethical business practices in my opinion (land not protected by conservation easements nor cemetery status; if business goes under what happens to cremains that have been spread??? No answer.) - Untrained management, unclear communication, unrealistic and changing expectations. - Company-wide burnout

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, opinions, and experience at Better Place Forests. We are highly committed to our employees and customers and believe that feedback is a gift. We hear you. Navigating start-up growth can be challenging as we launch new forests around the country; it is increasingly fast-paced. Even as we move quickly, we’ve been excited to hire many new people and promote internally. This is very important for us as we start implementing learning & development programs, plus manager training, to ensure each one of our team members has a positive and productive career path here at BPF. As we expand, we continue to put our customers first by taking steps to protect our forests, and their memorial trees. That multi-step process includes purchasing land and committing to not develop it, seeking conservation easements, and setting up endowment funds over time, and we take this very seriously. Our legal and real estate teams make this a priority. Again, thank you for sharing your feedback and for your contributions here at Better Place Forests. If you would like to discuss your feedback further, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to hr@betterplaceforests.com.

Pros

- The company attracts some of the smartest and most empathetic people out there. - Working here feels like you're really making a positive impact both on the planet and on people's lives.

Cons

- Out of touch leadership and top down approach of decision-making derails day to day operations and results to half baked plans and execution. - Diversity is painfully lacking in all aspects. People with opposing ideas or are critical of decisions are criticized for having a "bad attitude" or worse, get pushed out. - Employees' empathy and passion for the work are exploited to squeeze them out of more work. They are given unrealistic goals with changing direction and very little support. It's a shame to see a group of smart, hardworking, and passionate individuals be demoralized and broken down over time.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s not an easy one to read, but we appreciate feedback when it’s given. We’re a fast-growing company opening forests very quickly across the country, and this does require a lot of adaptation and iteration – this is true. While we grow, we aim to prioritize the employee experience, encouraging Summer Fridays, no-meeting Thursdays, and consistent time off, to encourage work/life balance as best we can for our team. Our people are our best assets and we do appreciate our team, not just as employees, but as people. Another point we want to acknowledge is diversity. At BPF, we have executive-backed D&I initiatives so that we can ensure our employees are valued, included, can show up fully themselves, and are able to do good, meaningful work. Our work is driven by key decisions we make, so every decision should align with our vision and our values. We emphasize transparency and provide the space for everyone to voice their opinions. We know it’s a fine balance between ensuring everyone is heard and entrusting our leaders to drive mission-driven decisions forward as we grow. Maintaining this balance is very important to us. To your encouraging points about the team consisting of smart, empathetic people – we couldn’t agree more. We’re grateful for the team we have in helping us drive our mission forward. We know you’ve posted your thoughts here, but we’d like for you to share your feedback with us directly if you’re open to it. Feedback is a gift, and hearing more about your experience here at Better Place Forests may help us continue to be our best as a company. Please feel free to reach out directly to people@betterplaceforests.com. Either way, we wish you the best, and we thank you for your contributions to Better Place Forests.
