Pros

• My peers have been some of the most talented, kindest, hardest working and most hilarious people I've ever collaborated with. I’m lucky to count many of them as good friends. • Dogs in the office brighten even the most soul-crushing days. • Used to be a great place to cut your teeth and work on a wide variety of clients and projects. • Free parking, free healthcare (if you're single), bonuses and surprise holiday checks (when I first started) are major benefits. • Small budgets and scrappy accounts give people the chance to wear many hats and discover new skills.

Cons

• Fear-based, sweatshop culture consistently rewards awful people and creates a toxic environment where everyone puts in insane hours and puts out mediocre creative work because of it. • The anxiety level of the agency is palpable. Psychological safety does not exist for many employees. • The current leadership team is in over their heads. They’re unable to take accountability, even just a little bit, and blame the constant loss of new business and current clients on anything and everyone but themselves. • Teams aren't empowered to do great work. There's a complete lack of trust and ownership. • There are no growth opportunities, particularly in creative, and especially for women.

Full Leadership Overhaul Is Necessary

Pros

Years ago, Periscope was at the top of its game. It was the shop to work at and securing talent was a high priority. I truly enjoyed my time there and made some of the best friends I've ever had. The work was challenging, but was recognized. If you were putting in the time, it was noticed and you were rewarded. Longevity meant a lot to Periscope. Now that has changed drastically.

Cons

Once new leadership came in in 2015, there was a paradigm shift. We were all warned the change would be minimal, which was ignorant for people to believe. With a leadership change at the top, the tension was high. The leaders who were a part of the larger leadership team were shut out from everything. The CEO faked transparency by sending updates loaded with false hope. There was no prioritization of the departments that brought in the most money. There have been more clients lost in the past 2 years than any agency in the industry, and everyone is operating under the model that what is going on is working. It's not and it's devastating to see what was once a powerhouse completely fall apart due to egos in leadership. Whatever was promised by the new CEO has not shown up. She hasn't brought in new business. It's time for a complete renovation across the board.
