Cons
This workplace is unethical with no work-life balance due to multiple reasons: 1. Extremely tight workspace: The retail store space is little and tight. Tables and shelves are placed so close to each other, only one person can fit into the passageways at a time. Not only does this stall efficiency of us workers, it also poses as a safety hazard. 2. Constant surveillance: Management places a CCTV in the store not for the safety of workers, but for ensuring workers are always on their feet. You will not allowed to relax or sit down at any point of time even when they are no customers in front of the CCTV. 3. Verbal harassment was tolerated: In this workplace, due to the overwhelming amount of parents purchasing uniforms before a new school year and the poor inefficiency of the store, there was constant backlash from the parents. At one point, a father expressed all his frustration on one of my part-time colleague worker (who was only 14-15 years old and hence a minor) with a very harsh scolding. The full-timers there who were adults did not step in to protect a minor from such verbal harassment, despite displaying a sign stating that worker harassment was not tolerated. After he stopped, the minor part-timer was clearly distressed, breaking down into tears. The full-timers only told him to forget about him and continue with his duties. 4. Tight working hours: Despite being a part-timer, you are expected to work in such an environment from 10 pm to 7 pm, for 6 days a week. You are only offered 30 minutes for your lunch break.
