Pros

The work was compelling, supported by a highly talented and passionate team. This environment demanded a strong self-starter mentality to overcome the structural chaos and leadership shortcomings. However, this potential evaporated when the company hemorrhaged staff via brutal firings (both secretive and public) and resignations. Business relationships also became tenuous due to leadership missteps, quickly turning the staff's daily tasks from developing cutting-edge product with high-end clients to cleaning the lab and moving furniture at the whim of the CEO.

Cons

The core issue is a deeply toxic and negligent company culture in which employees are treated as disposable goods by leadership. Bilio's vision felt admirable until goal posts were continually moved, and staff were subjected to near-constant bullying, manipulation, and screaming. This workplace is neither safe nor pleasant by any professional standard. And the byproduct of the chaos left many without paychecks in the Bay Area in 2024/2025 with no warning.

Chaotic and neurotic. A toxic place to work.

Pros

A friendly talented team, great client projects and partner relationships, neat space. Plenty of unique machinery and opportunities. Rather flat hierarchy and little bureaucracy. It's a very creative place.

Cons

Operationally poor and risky. Lacks leadership & business acumen. Bilio often feels like a big & lil bro fraternity than a confident, business-savvy family firm—unpredictable, erratic, and prone to self-sabotaging drama that jeopardizes relationships and deadlines. Impulsivity is prioritized over business and professionalism. The workplace violent tirades make everyday feel like an HBO sitcom. As a small company, you’ll wear multiple hats. For example, you may become a babysitter (for management’s children), an unlicensed therapist, or an emotional punching bag. They take pride in blending personal endeavors into the workplace environment. Management will individually test you and the lies are frequent, but distinguishing between manipulation and their genuine loss of touch with reality gets challenging. To be fair, bilio was a decent place to work before the spiritual descent into delusions, third eye triangles, and manic conspiracy tirades. Still frat-like and operationally poor, but significantly less erratic, insane, and scary.

Challenging workplace environment

Pros

Hardworking, passionate coworkers who strive to learn and try new things. Good access to a variety of specialized machinery hard to find elsewhere.

Cons

It is unfortunate as there is potential for this to be a great place to work, but this is being undermined by volatile leadership, leading to the mismanagement of client projects, employees, and company funds. There is a lack of clarity regarding what concrete tasks are required to support the vague demands of leadership’s vision, and a lack of availability to have discussions and provide proper guidance. What little available meeting time there is, is often spent trying to maintain focus and decipher confusing tirades. Fear of retribution also impedes open communication. Mismanagement of projects has led to damaged client relationships and unnecessarily stressful schedules. Lack of transparency around budgets and timelines creates confusion and frustration, which impedes the ability to prioritize efficiently.
