I have had my fair share of experience under different employers and industries however I have to say that I was particularly disappointed with my experience at Bison. During these times more than ever you would expect honesty and a modicum of compassion and care from your employers but you would be quite shocked to learn that those qualities are pretty much an afterthought at Bison. They are quite good at making promises and giving you a short window when they do extend an offer for you to come on board only to not meet your expectations once you are there.
My personal experience was nothing less than a bait and switch. I was being brought on to perform a certain role that I was aiming for so I could advance in my career and sharpen my skills. I was excited about being given that opportunity at Bison even though I would be taking a pay cut. A few months into my role I had my performance evaluation and was told I was meeting or exceeding expectations in my role. Even though that was the case, a new manager was hired who happened to be an old colleague of the head of my department, and my role and responsibilities as a supervisor were taken away and given to that individual. I asked about where I could improve or what I was doing wrong and received no real answer at all. To put it plainly, this was not what I had signed up for.
I was told that the way Bison operates, compensation is reevaluated every few months and you will be given raises if you are performing well. From what I have seen and the people I’ve spoken with, this is very untrue. I am not a new graduate, I have several years of experience and even though I tried to negotiate for more than 2 weeks of vacation I was denied. Not just that, but Bison only provides you with 3 paid sick days throughout the year which to be honest is absolutely ridiculous. My grandpa passed away from Covid during my tenure there and what message did I receive from my manager? I was told that my time off that day would be counted as a paid sick day. Nowadays it is common knowledge that employees quit on their managers, not their company. In my case, I would say that I am quitting on both.
I’m not generally somebody who takes the time to write these kinds of reviews, however, if this helps even one person make a more educated decision with what they want to do with their career then it will have been worth it.
