      Good talent leaving due to parent company mismanagement

      Pros

      There is good talent here who genuinely care about their clients and their work.

      Cons

      Those people are leaving because they are not enabled to succeed. Salary is not competitive. Benefits are not competitive. Employee experience is not a consideration. Customer experience is an afterthought. The Pixis acquisition and model has slowly bled the humanity out of the business. Pixis consistently misrepresents expected outcomes of its technology. It promises unrealistic improvements, and then under prices (red flag), and can't deliver (disaster). Sales is very well compensated but incentives are not delivering rational scopes or expectations. Service side is constantly juggling unhappy clients who are trapped in bad contracts. Offshore and technology are repeatedly touted as the solution when both of these aspects of the business remain immature and poorly managed. You could not find a single person in this business believes in the mission, because the mission quite nakedly is to move resources away from service teams to sales comps, offshore leadership and equity holder pockets. This business will not exist in 12-18 months.

      - Really results-focused, so you actually see the impact of your work - Good amount of autonomy — you’re trusted to own your accounts - Get to work with a variety of clients, which keeps things interesting - Team is collaborative, especially across SEO, paid media, and content - Fast-paced environment (great if you don’t like being bored) - Lots of opportunities to learn and stay on top of SEO trends - Client-facing work helps build communication and strategy skills - Strong focus on data, so decisions aren’t just guesswork - Leadership is approachable and generally supportive - Solid place to grow quickly if you’re proactive

      Not what it used to be - don’t be fooled

      There are still a few great people here. But outside of that, read the cons.

      Cons

      Black propeller used to be a great agency. A local, mid-sized agency that prided itself upon how they treated their employees and serviced their clients. Unfortunately I didn’t work there during those times. This was all until the agency was acquired by an Indian AI company, named Pixis. Pixis started by forcing their awful AI product into all of the clients ad campaigns and the result was terrible. The AI literally ruined so many campaigns that managers quietly removed the AI from the campaigns and Pixis already was planning their next product launch. The founder/CEO of Black Propeller stepped down in which a new CEO stepped in that let Pixis walk all over everyone and everything. From there, people were denied raises, denied promotions, were forced to offshore all account work to their team in India, and everything black propeller was known for, was gone. Pixis then went on to layoff half the company. The culture crumbled and then managers, department heads, directors, and coordinators began to leave every week. The agency now only has a few “OGs” left who are all awesome. The company is now fully ran by a couple people from Pixis who actually surprise everyone on how out of touch they are and how many simply bad business decisions they make. Do not be fooled by the pictures on the website. 75% of those people are gone. You will be forced to manage dozens of clients while relying on the offshore team to do the work.
