Pros

- smart and talented coworkers; mostly good people to work alongside and learn from

Cons

- lack of a real business: Block spends enormous resources on sales and marketing to prop up an ultimately weak and non-distinct product (hence Casper 2.0) - massive marketing spend and sales effort ruins Block's unit economics and masks critical issues with underlying renovation service, client success, and costs / efficiency of the business - very frustrating to work for an unsustainable business model that repeatedly overpromises and underdelivers to clients (most claims in the sales and marketing process are grossly exaggerated) - long story short: large funding round and "growth at all costs" mantra distracts Block from building a strong product, efficient workflows, and focusing on repeatable client success and instead drives the company to devote the vast majority of its resources to hollow sales and marketing strategies - hight turnover at junior levels

We're always open to feedback from our employees. We care about their experiences, and have healthy forums for improving them. This post was investigated. Unfortunately it was not a genuine review, but a malicious fake post, likely Made by a competitor company. It's not only immature, but also unethical. There will be accountability. What is true is that Block has an all-star team. Best-in-class technologists, operators, and growth professionals -- who are not deterred by internet trolls :)

Pros

There are no pros that come to mind.

Cons

Block refers to itself as a tech company but its business has zero tech leverage. No form of differentiating product has been created so Block is basically no different than any other design build firm out there. With no product or tech leverage, Block spends endless man hours and manual resources on each of its projects. The entire company is grossly inefficient and bloated, ruining Block's unit economics and making any form of of a sustainable / profitable business completely unattainable. With no tech to rely on to produce a better outcome for its clients and more efficient workflows for the business, Block devotes the majority of its resources to huge marketing spend and endless human oversight in sales and operations. Block's whole business is extremely shaky and basically a house of cards. Without huge marketing and personnel spend Block will implode and with no new funding that looks to be rather imminent.

Pros

Pros are specifically for the amazing employees who are not part of senior management (with a very, very small exception). These people are wonderful, low ego and smart.

Cons

Working at Block has been a disheartening experience to say the least. The major issue lies in the leadership's complete lack of acknowledgment and appreciation for the hard work put in by the most of the employees. There are a select few "teacher's pets," who can do no wrong. It's not just about being unrecognized; it's about being treated as if you're not even there and with no respect. Over the last year, the company has lost a ton of tenured, caring, hard workers, there's a reason for that. Very robotic C-suite team, anyone who is a normal, empathetic person won't last. Morale is at an all-time low and has been for a long time. It's disappointing to witness a leadership group that is oblivious to the diverse needs and perspectives of its workforce. Pay is ok, could be much better, no opportunities for growth.
