As the CEO of blooom and as a human being - I am truly sorry that you (or others) felt this way about how I have been running this company. I can promise that I am not trying to run a dictatorship here and will use your criticisms as more incentive to make sure we are building a company where ideas are encouraged. I love blooom, I love the team we have assembled here at blooom and I love that we are trying hard to bring financial services to a big group of under-served savers that Wall Street has largely ignored. - Chris Costello

Pros

The other employees (what's left of them) The mission

Cons

The current blooom CEO is the worst leader I have ever encountered. I haven't been at blooom as long as some of the others, but it's a company in trouble. If you want to join a company where the CEO doesn't care about you or your fellow employees, doesn't know anything about the industry you operate in, was promoted to CEO from CMO/Head of product despite being the primary cause of most of the companies current problems, drones on endlessly while saying nothing, and fires anyone who disagrees with him or that he doesn't like then do I have the company for you! We recently laid off most of our marketing team and a few others. The CEO clearly did not care about any of the employees or their sacrifices and years of service to the company. He refused to acknowledge any of his mistakes despite being either CEO or CMO for almost all of them. Blooom is a mess and will not get better until it has new leadership.

Pros

Blooom is a much needed service and is trying to do great things. And there are some amazingly dedicated people who work very hard to achieve blooom's goal of helping people retire.

Cons

Blooom just laid off eight people today and its president quit. It is going through massive changes since it completed raising it money. Those fired included people who had been with the company since almost the very beginning to those just recently hired. It also included someone that had relocated their entire family to Kansas to take this job. They have implemented new "voluntary" work hours where they ask the employees to work in the evenings.

Thank you for the feedback. As a start-up we face challenges and changes on a daily basis. We are always learning and doing what we can to get better at what we do. We make no excuses for mistakes made along the way. We admit our imperfections. We hear what our clients are saying and what our team is saying. We not only hear them but we are taking action. In reference to your concerns mentioned above, we made decisions to pause on a couple of longer term projects to allow us to put all of our focus and energy on our direct to consumer growth. This decision meant that we would also have to impact jobs. There are real people involved and it’s painful. We made this decision now to keep us from ever having to make that decision again. There are no guarantees in a start-up but we are working hard to continue to improve and make a difference in the lives of our clients and the lives of our team.
