Pros

Otley is actually quite a nice place, I can't really think of any other positives unfortunately. It's just not a very nice business to work for.

Cons

The results of this service are generally very poor, you will never be told how many roles actually get filled as the percentage is shocking Most of the businesses who are touted as clients no longer work with Blue Octopus There are nowhere near the resources they claim, that's both in terms of an internal team and job boards Even the admin team admit they don't fill many roles You will be told to tell fibs about advert responses Clients are offered little courtesy on internal emails They say that they differ from an agency culture but it's a little boys club with exclusive membership and the most 'non PC' environment you could imagine The commission structure is of benefit to only two people, it's unrealistic and based on nothing more than assumptions and guesswork There's nothing different about the service, actually there is, it's on average twice as expensive as the hundreds of other competitors You are not entitled to have an opinion There is absolutely no training and support They have the highest staff turnover of any company I have worked for and are certainly not growing by any stretch of the imagination Over 20 people have left the business this year alone by whatever means, that almost half They will never accept responsibility for any failings or listen to reason Staff morale is incredibly low Nobody has ever lasted in sales and even those who do well leave - do a search on linkedIn for this company as previous employer The staff bbq mentioned as a perk in one of the reviews written by the owners was 'compulsory' as was the need to contribute a minimum amount of money towards it - honestly guys, if your staff were honest, ask them how they felt about that if they aren't too scared to actually voice an opinion

Pros

I was employed in sales and in my time spent there (and I truly don't think I'm alone here) , there really wasn't a single thing I can think of. But to take a positive from such a negative experience I would say that I can now look back and laugh at how unprofessionally this Micky mouse outfit is ran. But to give credit where credit is due, if you live in Otley (where they are based) and want an easy, none challenging stop gap admin role and can get on with the "Octo Family" then I'm sure you'll find happiness there.

Cons

The easiest way to approach this one is for you to read the other positive reviews that have been written by senior / long standing members of staff, and think the exact opposite. In my experience, these reviews are nothing more than exaggerated adverts for the company. When you strip things back and look at the facts, this is a very small company of around 25 employees with a very small minded mentality. From my experience in sales, I felt isolated with no helpful support from management and training that was nothing short of complete nonsense from a manager that clearly had no idea what he was doing. Although in fairness, the company demoted this person from their position in a very short space of time and brought in a replacement. If you're considering a sales role, then what you need to realise is that Blue Octopus operate in a highly competitive market place, and their offering is over priced and offers nothing innovative or different to it's competitors, so I found it a very difficult service to sell honestly. In my experience I found it really challenging to gain renewal business as the service I sold rarely delivered. I was encouraged to use high pressure sales techniques and to embellish the results of advertising responses which I wasn't comfortable with. The commission structure is comical and I experienced deception in my interview in relation to how commission is paid. Claims that the company is "forward thinking" and has great career prospects in my opinion are clearly misleading to any potential employee as from my knowledge so far this year they have sacked / streamlined / lost / made redundant around 18 members of staff. But please feel free to make your own mind up, I'm just speaking from my experience, but I fear that my opinion is more of a majority shared by the many other previous employees, rather than that of the small minority which are currently employed by the business and appear to be delightfully happy in their roles.

Pros

Some great people work there, but the senior team and directors are a joke! They really do not have a clue, in it for a quick £ and off!

Cons

Led by jokers selling a product that does not say do what it says on the tin!
