Pros

Bluetooth is an exciting and transformational technology. The members and products being built with Bluetooth are and will continue to make a positive impact on the world, which makes the potential of working at Bluetooth SIG very enticing. The working groups are doing very interesting work that will change the IoT positively over the coming year. The benefits are decent including healthcare, 401k and vacation. There are a lot of very nice employees. There is a willingness among employees to reach beyond their typical job duties to ensure success across teams.

Cons

The leadership team is by far the worst I've worked for. There is no transparency and no trust given to employees in the organization. Silos are encouraged and outdated practices and tools are rampant across the entire organization. When tools don't work (both internal and external), there's a lot of finger pointing but no responsibility taken by management to provide budget and resources necessary to actually change things. everyone at the organization is doing the job of 2-3 people but no one is given the grace of realistic timelines or budgets. So no real impactful work is ever completed. People are running in different directions depending on the whim of the board. Saying no is never an option. There's a lot of strain between the working groups and sig staff. All of this leads to talented staff leaving to find a job where they'll be treated well and can put their talents to use. It also leaves behind the staff who has been around forever who perpetuate the same, outdated and ineffective practices. This place is a disaster. It's a real shame.

Pros

* Wonderful, dedicated front-line staff who genuinely believes they're making a difference in the technology industry * Opportunities to engage with the brightest minds in technology from around the world *

Cons

* Combative, distrustful relationship between the executive team and the membership they're supposed to serve creates toxic relationship between mid-level leadership and members they work with. * Executive Director is a coward who talks big in internal meetings, sends team members out to do his bidding, and then caves immediately and throws his team under the bus when confronted in person by members. * VP of Finance runs the entire organization from behind the scenes, with no accountability to the Board of Directors or the membership. * Revolving door at the VP and Director level -- senior staff just disappear constantly. Some walk away, some are fired for trivial reasons.

Extremely toxic work environment

Pros

Some nice and fun people to work with Good work/life balance Great location Relatively good benefits

Cons

Senior leadership creates an extremely toxic work environment at Bluetooth. They dictate an unreal amount of policies and procedures and require all product/project related decisions to go through the full senior leadership team. You have minimal creative freedom as everything is micromanaged and dictated by these core few people. Like to have your own opinion and some creative freedom? That's a direct ticket to being fired. I have never worked at a company that fires so many people, they operate like they think they are on the apprentice! All jokes aside, while I was working there, they had about a 20% turnover rate. They either fired people that didn't do exactly as they wanted, or people realized how bad it was and ran a mile in the opposite direction. If you are interviewing here I would highly recommend taking caution and asking about their history of turnover. Although when I was there, leaderships solution to put their employee's minds at ease was to just tell them that "there is not a problem".
