Pros
Stable company to work for. There are some good benefits, work life balance encouraged, especially for employees with a family. Less stressful and less pressure than some other companies within the industry. I met some very nice people and Sweden is a nice place to live. The company has very good PR for a mining company.
Cons
Not an open work environment, questions and opinions were not valued or encouraged. A high conformity work environment, averse to change or differing opinions. Poor management, my managers working method was to be passive aggressive, used manipulation, undermining, gossip, isolation, poor communication, favoritism. Frequently showed a lack of professionalism and integrity, seemed to forget it was work and not a social environment. Managements role seemed to be admin rather than technical. Management and members of staff were inappropriately tracking e-mail and personnel internet use. Low psychological safety environment. Not an inclusive work environment, I was frequently reminded I was not Swedish and reminded of my immigrant status, hard for international workers to be fully accepted. Lack of accountability and sense of entitlement. Salary was average for the industry, especially when considering high cost of living in Sweden, remote locations and any personal sacrifices. Remote locations, adverse weather, lack of daylight and the fact new international workers will not have an existing social network need to be considered. Promotion seemed to be based on time served or who you drink coffee with rather than ability.
