Career progression and management at BookBub left much to be desired: It's disconcerting to see the lack of transparency and the withholding of timely reviews mentioned in other reviews, I can relate to those feelings. I often felt inadequately guided due to the communication style of my manager, which in turn affected my performance. During annual reviews, these discrepancies made me feel unprepared for some of the decisions made regarding my position, especially as it affected my compensation. Efforts to discuss and gain clarity on feedback received were often met with indifference, and it felt like my concerns were never escalated to higher management. The recurring "startup" justification for certain practices and decisions felt misplaced for a company that has clearly established itself. This was especially worrisome regarding benefits: the absence of noncompetitive pay, 401k matching, and severance pay combined with their unwillingness to negotiate salaries further underscored some of the organization's shortcomings. I've worked at startups with 20 - 30 employees, facing considerable uncertainty, and 401k matching and room to negotiate was always standard and encouraged. On career progression, I echo some of the thoughts of the other reviews. While the company has a notably flat structure and transparent hierarchy, it was difficult to get face-time or feel close to leadership and the decisions they made. Outside of engineering, internal promotions and advancements seem few and far between, with a greater emphasis on lateral movements. Great for individuals who are open to exploring different positions, but I've witnessed a few other employees leave because they have felt stagnated.
