Boxy Harm... Not Charm

Pros

The best part of Boxy Charm is the people who work there. You will work with some of the best people (outside of leadership) that you will ever come across professionally. These people have a passion for what they do, they work hard in their careers and are very driven. You will forge relationships that will withstand the stress and anxiety that leadership so heavily & freely provides and find yourself wishing that you could rescue everyone you work with should you be able to escape. Everyone says the free makeup box a month is a great perk - which is true. However, the cultivation and curation of that box comes at price and that cost is the emotional, mental and financial well-being of the team that creates and executes that box. Great benefits and employer coverage which is very hard to come by these days. But you better pray that you don't fall ill or need to use said benefits since you will be questioned, criticized and judged for taking time off if you or a dependent falls ill.

Cons

If it wasn't evident from the description above, here is some more detail. Working at BC will place you in a classic "bait and switch" scenario. You will be sold on the company in the interview process. The leadership team will talk-up the company, sing it's praises, sell you an opportunity to "get in early" with its "high-growth" and "fast paced" environment. You will leave the interview ready to work and wanting to hit the ground running to implement everything that was discussed. After you start, you will begin to get acclimated and organize your to-do's, ideas and responsibilities that was previously discussed. This all seems great and definitely possible until you have the indecisive, self-righteous, arrogant, micromanaging CEO breathing down your neck and watching your every move. There is ZERO strategy for the team - from existing employees and maintaining their growth, to hiring new employees. You are dealing with a money hungry, misogynist who dictates his female employees while simultaneously derailing the hard work of his male counterparts because he cannot relinquish any type of control. Should you attempt to ask questions, take the lead, create and implement a strategy, you will be told "yes" to your face just to be dismissed and then be faced with defending your work and ability because he doesn't remember the conversation and truly just doesn't care. The only female in management left the company after just 6 months... that speaks for itself. The environment this man has created is toxic, depressing and just bad. Who BC is as a brand and who they are as an employer are two very different things - rightfully so... The amazing brands and marketing teams run all of social media and the CEO is the dictator on top resulting in BC being fun and pretty on the outside, and rotten on the inside. Work-life balance is non-existent here and you are expected to make BC your priority. Time for family? Leaving early to pick up a child or coming in late to drop one off? Sure, you can do it and use what little PTO you have accrued, but you're also going to hear commentary about it and be verbally compared to other employees who "stay late" or "figure it out".

Pros

Getting a free box of beauty products every month. That's it. There's a 20 word minimum for this box so I'm just going to write this sentence.

Cons

First and foremost, all positive reviews on this thread are fake. And that's the TRUTH. Anyway, you would think this company would be a super fun place to work because it's makeup and makeup is fun. Stop right there. This "company" is run by a CEO who has his personal business everywhere. Why am I going to work and hearing about his personal business and his marriage? UNPROFESSIONAL. There was a New hire who would became buddy-buddy with the CEO, had a private conversation promising another employee her success and will make sure she "gets ahead". Incredibly unprofessional. Employees are incredibly cut throat and rude. In addition, you work very closely with the CEO as he is a huge micro manager. If that's your thing, that's cool. However, it makes you feel as though you're always having to prove to someone you are actually doing work. Even though, the people who seem to essentially do nothing are best friends with the CEO. There are no such things as raises, promotions, or bonuses. No one will ever tell you how you are performing. I did my work, very well, and was let go with no warning, no explanation, nothing. Proving only further that these individuals have no idea what they are doing. This company fires people who have worked from them when they were just a tiny start up. They Hire people from outside the company and place them above employees who have been there, working their butts off, for years. It's also a little suspicious that management (which are two men) hire only women. With the exception of ONE male employee who works in IT. Please, take it from me, whatever you do don't work here. You will not move up. The stress from the petty things that are said and done in this office are not worth it!!!!!! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!!!!!!! Boxycharm uses and abuses their employees and dump them like road kill. Work anywhere else but here! McDonald's even!!!

Pros

Free makeup every month, your coworkers are a nice group of people, competitive salary, decent benefits, they buy bagels most Fridays

Cons

I would not recommend this company to anyone. While the pay is competitive, it is not worth the stress that you have to endure while employed at this establishment. Prepare to be used, abused, overworked, stressed, among other things. This is an office setting where everyone knows each other's business. Everyone is made aware of what's going on in everyone else's personal life. The amount of drama that goes on in the office is deplorable. You don't get the opportunity to learn. Management does not provide career advancement opportunities. They use you and exhaust you and dump you once they can no longer get anything from you, all the while not bothering to provide you with any guidance or teach you skills to advance in your career. The biggest complaint amongst everyone in the office is the lax management. Check out their social media, all their customers hate their customer service. This is mainly due to errors on the logistics side; meanwhile, upper management blames everyone but the actual people responsible, themselves. The CEO and COO are mindless idiots who have no idea what they're doing; they've had immense luck in getting to where they are now. Upper management expects you to have no life; you will be at their beck and call so DO NOT TAKE A SALARY POSITION HERE! You will sell your soul to the devil once you get that company phone. There is an incredibly high turnover rate; the majority of the employees who helped to start the company and help get it to where it is now were let go. Highly qualified employees leave upon learning the true nature of the place. All in all, this is a job where you will remain stagnant. Their hardworking and long-term employees are not compensated in the manner they should be. No one is awarded a raise or bonus based on merit. There are no performance reviews so don't expect to get (m)any raises. No one is appreciated and you are made to feel as though you are replaceable at any moment. They even make you train your replacement! This is not a place for those who are looking for a stable job which can lead to growth and career advancement. This is not a place for those looking to make a career of their job.
